This bottle was showing some oxidation. I hope it was just this bottle, as I still have 3 more and the 2009 (a vintage I barely bought anything of in Barolo) is aging very quickly in general and some wines might already be past peak. I will try to open another one soon.

Reviewing 2009 Barolo (Javier's Place - Madrid) : This wine is in a closed phase with some tannins that "cause pain" on the palate. Too concentrated, with an overwhelming structure right now. I simply advise to wait because it has all the elements that the fans like: vineyards of more than 50 years in Serralunga d'Alba, classic vinification with 30 months aging in oak, only two hectares of low yield, ... Este vino se encuentra en una fase cerrada con …

Lighter ruby color with some bricking towards the rim. With minimal aeration it was already open for business. Aromatics of of dark red cherries, also some sweet red berries too, some anise, licorice, flowers and some iron notes. It's medium+ bodied with medium+ tannin that is a little drying by today's Azelia standard and medium acidity. Good length. A pretty Margheria but lacks the thrill and the mid-palate density of the best years. Also the 2009 often have slightly lower …

Lighter ruby Color. This was showing much lighter-bodied than the last time I tasted it. Notes of dark red cherries, with some air also some sweet strawberries, some anise, licorice, plum, flowers and some iron. It's medium+ bodied with medium-high tannin and medium+ acidity. Good length. A pretty but slightly lighter Margheria than usual. I don't think it's gonna be particularly age-worthy but it's showing already nicely now with some air and can definitely age for about 7 - 10 …

Barolo : (degustato alla cieca) tartufo, terra, cioccolato, resina, pino silvestre, china. Il tannino soffoca un po' le sensazioni aromatiche sia per la sua ruvidità che per la sua amarezza

Barolo and Barbaresco Tasting - Caro's Wnes (Caro's Wines, Auckland, New Zealand) : A slightly modern nose - some sweet oak apparent but slightly oxidative in style, nutty aromas intertwine with Nebbiolo character. This is lots of fun - the oxidative and complex style works. Lots of cedar on the finish.

Tasted @ Vinitaly 2013 with Lorenzo Scavino. Very classic Barolo (Serralunga) nose of dark fruit and cherries, tar, flowers and some spices. Beautiful structure of massive but soft tannin and acidity. Very long and persistent. Built to age beautifully.
