Enjoyed this bottle decanted, at The Oven East, with my good friend Antonio, with malai kofta and mulligatawny soup. I have had many bottles of St. Cosme, in various vintages, CDR, CDP, Little James, Cote Rotie, Les Deux Albion, and most importatly, Gigondas. There is no better value for Rhone syrah. Excellent vintage, in its prime. An hour decant brought forth the notes and richness. All of the preceding notes are accurate in their own way, and I generally concur. …

Very nice. Well balanced, soft tannins, smooth. Enjoyed without food, also went well with appetizers at a holiday party.

Forward blackberry, licorice, sage and violets on the nose. Also some smoked meat elements. Powerful and well-structured palate. Quite dry and warming.

Dark fruit, leafy, black olives, damp earth. Fruit is a bit thin on the back palate, transitioning primarily to tannins and more earthy notes. It’s not the best CdR out there but solid value. Drink now or in the next couple of years, ideally with some nice grilled game meat.

Bramble, blackberry, bacon, violet, cool underbrush and something more earthy dominates the nose. The palate is on the lighter side. Cool and salty with a quite dry ending.

Bright cherry, raspberry on the nose. Very fruit driven with a little undertone of spice. Sweet and fresh acidity. Very grippy tannin and spicy. Perhaps not as elegant as I had expected. Much improved with beef. 50% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre, 20% Grenache, 15% Carignan, 5% Clairette. Whole cluster, co fermentes

Lighthearted on the nose, especially compared to the Cornas tasted prior. Black and blue fruits with an undercurrent of thyme and licorice. Beautiful acid on this keeps the palate lifted. More red fruited on the palate as well with freshly picked dark cherries.

I continue to look to replace Guigal CdR as my house wine, because I'm not fond of the constantly altered recipe. I want Syrah, not Grenache. However, for the QPR, it's a tough ask. And, it's not known yet when the next vintage is coming. So, over the past couple of years, watching YouTube channels, Attorney Somm turned me onto Saint Cosme. However, until recently, I've been unable to find it. And, it turns out, when I did, the base …

Savory compote intensity of dark fruit. Blackberry, red cherry, dark chocolate, scrub brush, mild baking spice, licorice root, black olive, iodine. Deep ruby color. Medium aromatic intensity. Medium flavor intensity. Dry. Medium-plus acid. Medium-plus tannin with a fine-grained texture that is also a little unripe and chewy. High alcohol. Full body. Long finish. Very good quality. Suitable for aging.

Rich dark chewy. Blackberry and peppery flavours; strong tannins but oaky smooth. Still young, expect to mature nicely

Initial bouquet faded rapidly. Even after an hour, mouthfeel is tannic. Fruit far back. Last year's promise not fulfilled.

Black berry nose, leathery & earthy nose; but, followed by distinctive alcohol nose. Mid palate is weak; instantly followed by bitter oaky finish. Did not develop much after an hour. Hard to recommend.

Dark berries and noticable alcohol nose. Middle palate is empty. Acidity is not high but protruding. Overall unbalanced. Might need some time to be aired.

This wine is really good, intensive and very fruity at the moment. It is displaying more or less everything, such as sweet and dark fruits and berries, herbs and tobacco. The problem is that the different components have not really resolved and integrated yet, so the wine gives quite a closed and over-exaggerated impression at this moment. I would advice to wait for some time. This wine will be great and much more balanced in a few years.

Côtes du Rhône Dinner (Bernal Heights, San Francisco) : The smell of flowers as if it were grown on a cherry tree, buoyant red fruit flavors like premature cherries and a subtle spice. Flavors of bitter minerals, damp earth from deep underneath, wet leaves, flat cranberries and dried twigs. The aromas and flavors are very friendly to the senses.

Great color. The nose shows aromas of ripe strawberry, raspberry, spices, flowers and a hint of roasted meat. This is medium full bodied on the palate with excellent concentration and good class. The medium plus length finish features a bit of alcohol and a moderate tannic structure.

Pretty ok but the QPR…needs a year or two in the bottle is all I have to add. Wait, I want to add more…St Cosme or Craft & Estate needs to dial back their price increases. This wine was $17 not too long ago and their base Côtes du Rhône was $14. Now they’re $30 and $20 respectively. I paid $35 for the 2015 Gigondas my CT shows and I’m seeing it regularly these days for $55-65. I mean, c’mon.

Ripe and deep dark fruit. This is nice, but the alcohol is quite prominent, and frankly I preferred the 2020 base CdR from a few weeks ago.

Really nice fruity and floral nose with some spices. Continues with the same theme on the palate. Good acidity and tannins. This has many of the same traits as Chateauneuf-du-pape, but with added freshness and juiciness. I like it a lot! Still young, good now but with potential to improve.

Immediately, a bright and fruity nose, followed by wild flowers and herbes de Provence on the palate. Round and full. Medium finish, but still with a bit of tannins which need taming. (Open an hour ahead, or give it another year in cellar?). Not your average CdR! As another review implied, this is like a baby Chateuneuf du Pape. I preferred it to their regular CdR. Loved it; bought it.

Two very pretty and consistent bottles on the day. Bright and fresh, lovely fruity feel, light sweet juicy but in check and in balance with a softer earthy feel and herby edge. Very good especially for the price . 90

Medium red. Floral, spicy, smoky and meaty nose with cherry; what's not to like ? Low tannin, medium-low acidity; tannin firming over three hours. Clean and well-fruited in the mouth, this ten-year-old CdR drinks well with Pasta Fagiole and caesar salad. Finishes quite Italianate. Bottle #6 of six.

Medium ruby. Nose of garrigue, bacon, plum, black pepper. Tightly wound of acid, with moderating tannin; slightly bitter on entry. Flavors favor plum and wild blackberry, with some power, and licorice in the finish. Very nice indeed. Bottle #7 of 12.

Beautiful aged colour, no brown but a clear rim. Slight sediment. Superb evolved nose. Chewy tannins. Mouthfilling wine in texture as well as taste. Impressive, savoury length. At 7 years old is perhaps at its peak. Wouldn't keep it too long from here on in. Note: displays some bottle variation at this age

Wow! This wine has really come around. The color is deep translucent garnet. Intense nose of lilac, dried cherry, herbs, tar and a little barnyard. The palate is supercharged but elegant. This isn't a rich wine but it's got gritty tannin, binding acidity and tons of flavor that dances from beginning to end. The finish is long and interesting. Awsome CdR!

Suprisingly funky, with significant barnyard. Beyond this, nice texture, with mellow cassis and raspberry. Much of the fruit is perhaps gone, but I did not have this vintage young to confirm this. Elegant, but drink up.

Not sure what to make of this one - the colour was absolutely gorgeous - like crushed raspberries and blood - a stunning red. Decanted the wine and it threw a lot of sediment. Completely closed at first, it didn't open up for nearly 3 hours and even then it didn't show much on the nose. On the palate, a bit one-dimensional with soft red fruits (raspberries, hints of sour cherries) and some minerality. It was slightly acidic with minimal …

Last one of a 1/2 case bought on release, this bottle and the one before it showed disappointing levels of acidity, with much of the bright original fruit having fallen away. This had the promising, very peppery, black-fruit nose of the early bottles, but on the palate was disjointed, dominated by harsh acidity and marked by a sort of clipped, clenched finish. I know others believe that this wine may be one for mid-term bottle age, but my experience with …

($17) Grenachey aromas of strawberries, pepper, and garrigue. This changed a lot over three days. Day two it was tight, hard and inky, day three it opened back up to more strawberry and powdery Cotes du Rhone flavors.

($11) Ripe raspberry and grape nose with a hint of leathery Rhone funk. Medium-full bodied with some excess acidity and maybe some extra CO2. Smoky bitter charcoal finish. Nice, but I don’t really get it what makes it such a great value. Has some cottony tannins lingering in the finish. The mouthfeel on this wine is unusual.
