Domaine la Soumade Gigondas

In the Southern Rhône 2018 is known as a supple, early-ripening vintage, but in Gigondas it seems to have turned out particularly well. From 70% Grenache and 30% Syrah this has a deep black-red color with a purple rim, aromas and flavors of black fruits, licorice, black chocolate, firm tannins, a perfect acidity and a long, lingering finish of 30+sec. Exactly the same comments as for my previous bottle. A very successful wine for the vintage. With all that fruit, acidity and tannins the 15% alcohol is almost not noticeable at first, but be sure to serve it on the fresh side. If you can find a bottle don’t hesitate to buy, but it will not be easy.

With 70% Grenache and 30% Syrah from a small vineyard and harvested at low yields of 30hl/ha (production of less than 5000 bottles/year), this wine is aged in large used oak barrels of 600l (demi-muids). In this generally smooth and early-ripening vintage it is quite powerful, with an almost opaque red-black robe, expansive bouquet of licorice, red and black currants and on the palate a mass of forceful tannins, a touch of dark chocolate, considerable acidity and a lingering finish. …
