Domaine Bitouzet-Prieur Volnay 1er Cru Caillerets

Nose of the terroir but lacking any pungent scent of barnyard. Light in weight but rich in coating the mouth w raspberry and white pepper. Finish is short but retains an age worthy quality. This wine will get much better for many years. I'm glad my children chose to open their bottle have me suck it down this morning w spectacular Irish salmon.........

As always a carefully made Volnay from Bitouzet-Prieur. This is a medium-bodied savoury yet pretty Burgundy. With some breathing it shows it's richer, mellow side. 2008 is fine, though it lacks the intensity and immediate weight and attractiveness of 2009. It's hard to say if this would be best left 10 years, or whether it might show aged complexity earlier. There is a risk that the next five years will show little gain at all. Sorry to be so vague. …
