Light gold. Initially an absence of fruit with an attractive waxy character and oxidative hints; increasingly ripe fruit elements came through, apple, apricot. Plenty of time remaining ***1/2

Pale to mid yellow colour. A very complex wine which changed significantly over the evening. Initially like a coiled old school Rioja, waxy fruit, and hints of honey and nuts, but it was surprisingly fresh and this as it opened moved it towards a more semillon type profile with apple prominent; finally it settled into a finely balanced place where it was slightly oxidative with mellow slight honeyed fruit, still with the attractive waxy texture. Presumably will drink well for …

A bit of an enigma this one. Read a wonderful write up on Wine Detective website. Oxidative nose like a good white rioja. Lovely floral and fruit notes on the palate - really exceptional - and I am convinced it will just get better. No disappointment at all and an excellent white. However still struggling with the VFM given the price. Having mulled it over there are many reds that I have paid a similar price for and been disappointed …

Bright, intense yellow colour. Powerful nose consisting of white peach, white peach skin, smoky vanilla, lemon peel, wild peppermint, oak evident, but not off-putting. Palate is almost painfully intense and dense, high accidity, high viscosity, oily, but very precise, well structured and in no way plush or fat, it's like an athlete, like a good midweight boxer with a strong punch. Very mineral, almost salty, buttery toastiness behind minerality. Excellent and serious white.

Honey, floral, citrus. Still super youthful. Can probably get something similar for half the price from the Rioja. (Viña Gravonia comes to mind)

Wonderful. Unique. Viscous. Great aromas: petrolatum, resinous and honey. Great acidity and persistence. Worth trying.

Yellow / orange color. Racy, with some old wood on the nose. Buttery, like a Meursault, but more old fashioned. Nice acidity. Smooth in the mouth with an intense and long finish. A great wine that will last for decades.

A private lunch (The Harwood Arms *, Fulham, London, UK) : Purchased from Fortnum & Mason today. Labels mentions Reservado rather than Reserva. Remarkably light colour for age; very fresh nose, citrus, hint of older wood, reminiscent of good white Rioja; on the palate dry but juicy, almost Riesling-like liveliness and floral flavours, incredibly young and refreshing; very good length.

A private lunch (Buaco Palace Hotel) : Compared to the 1991 clearly a step up in quality in every respect, more evolution too; full yellow with a hint of gold; warm nose, golden grapes, not even a hint of oxidation; on the palate powerful but full of finesse, clearly more acidity and length than the 1991. A classical beauty. Now - 2010.
