Concha Y Toro Merlot The Wine Society‘s Exhibition Chilean Merlot

Decanted for 90 mins. Intriguing plum meets chocolate peppermint on the nose, some old world hedgerow flavours; you can really smell the alcohol kick. Peppery attack gives way to a nice mid-palate, showing creamy oak with fleshy, concentrated dark fruits. Full bodied, mild alcohol spike but not as bad as you'd think after smelling it. The finish really lets this wine down: the oak takes over and an alarming lack of acidity gives an impression of flabbiness. A shame really …
