Vasco Urbano Syrah "Henry" Hayes Ranch

Not great... past its prime I suppose

Almost fully opaque, deep ruby center to purplish rim. Very potent smell: plum and herbs. Unusual combination. Some dark cherry lingering to add sweetness. Fruit forward on the palate with cherry and plum. Oak comes out along with the herb tones. Much more vegetable-like towards the back end. Finish is a bit sharp, but long. Certainly distinct. A bit odd at first, but I warmed up to it.

Really nice! Paired with a healthy version of cassoulet (use chicken & turkey sausage substituting for traditional duck, bacon & sausage). Fruity nose, warm caramel notes, slight hint of spice/pepper.
