Opened a magnum to try with grilled steaks. Had very little nose initially but actually opened up some in the glass. Was very pleasantly surprised with how well it went with the steaks as I’m used to drinking cab, Shiraz or merlot with steaks.

I always loved the fruit from Peters Vineyard, over a decade in the bottle and still going strong, perfectly balanced and integrated. Perfect cork, oxidation has changed the formerly ruby red to a brick color with brown edges without significant impact on the flavor. Aromas of red raspberry and baking spice. Flavors of black cherry and forest floor with a medium finish. This wine is just past its peak but the pedigree is obvious. Randy Peters has cultivated some of …

I really liked this and think it could have gone another 5 years. A little bit sweet, bright raspberry fruit with subtle tannin and nicely balanced acid.

Less POW than I normally expect from a CA Zin. On the other hand, nowhere near as out of control as many of them are either. Black fruit, with big notes of chocolate and cola, and then a nice, light oak finish. Excellent with our goulash.

Lots of structure, bright fruit notes, and enough tannins to give body. A really good wine from a not good year in Sonoma

Medium body. More fleshy than I was remembering from two years ago. Nose is that of a typical Sonoma Pinot. Palate show very bright acidity during the first 15 minutes, with savory, dark cherry flavors and with smoky notes; more bitter cherry after 40 minutes, as well as black pepper on the backpalate. Finishes slightly sweet. Will hold for another couple of years.

Typical california pinot nose of red fruit, some light oak, dirt, mushroom and a light green note. Taste was nicely complex with red fruit, spice, vanilla, medium body with a nice viscous quality. Superbly long finish. Very, very nice wine. Wish I had more.

Surprisingly bright, more so than the other 2008 PP bottlings. Good acidity so very food friendly, although this seemed a little skewed towards the higher tart fruit notes.

Still very primary. Strong, strong sharp red fruit, pinot funk, and dirt on the nose with a hit of alcohol. Red fruit, some vanilla, earth, black spice, and a strong note of alcohol. Lower acid. Nicely long finish. A little too fruit forward for me. Should be good for a few more years but with the low acid, I don't believe it will last 10.

Fruit forward and very light and subtle for a Russian River zinfandel - not surprisingly almost pinot-like. Good to have as a glass of wine but did not work well with a spicy marinara like 'traditional' zins usually do. Drinking well now.

Ruby red color but getting a touch of brick around the edge. A little silk on the mouth feel, but just enough and nowhere near the plush to puts things over the top. Good black fruit and then some cola and forest floor and a touch of clove. Finishes with a good balance of acidity and tannin. This was really good with a prosciutto wrapped halibut w/fried potatoes. 9/2/2015 seems to be losing some of the secondary favors. Mostly fruit …

Really drinking at peak now, shows nearly opaque purple in glass, with aromas of rich black fruit. Palate opens with black cherry, black currant and blackberry, nicely enhanced with earthy forest floor and touches of leather. Finishes well and long. Interestingly, not impressive at release, but after a couple of years on the rack this edition really explodes with traditional PP complexity and intensity.

Starts out with a dark, smoky nose of red fruits and brown spice with just a hint of cola. The nose is moderately complex and really benefited from air in the glass. The palate is medium + bodied, and quite firm from the acidity on the finish. It has dark fruit profile with a lot of smoke and spice and a moderately long finish. This is definitely darker in profile and more smoky than the 2008 Peter's vineyard I tasted …

Maybe it will grow on me after the second glass, but first impression is that this is a good wine a bit too much alcohol which I think gets in the way of a good balance of fruit and spice. Medium to light weight for a Zin. I LOVE PPP pinots...their Zins are just "very good".

Plenty of black cherry and blackberry. Nice cedar and oak. Deep ruby color and excellent mouth feel. Overall, more of a cocktail wine than a food wine as it's a bit light on the acidity. Could become flabby if left too long in the cellar. 11/28/10 Didn't get quite the fruitiness that my previous note indicates. Noted more balance in this round of notes. Still great color and mouth feel. Would probably give it a 90 or 91 based on …

The fruit is a little less pronounced than the last bottle I had (5/09). Still nice, but I don't think it will be as long lived as I thought it would be a short 2 1/2 months ago. It might be the smoked salmon I'm drinking it with. Very nice, but drink soon.

Lush black cherry on the nose. Big fruit on the front palate and more black cherry on the mid palate. Long finish. Great acidity to balance the forward fruit flavors. Very drinkable now; probably improve for a year or two and should hold for 3-4 years.

lots of cherry cola, baking spice and vanilla on the nose. mouthfeel is pretty big and explosive with tons of vanilla, cola, and baking spices. I look forward to seeing what this is like once it mellows out a bit. The wine is delicous but a bit over the top at this point. I got a little too much heat on the finish.

12/14/08: bright red color, with a nose of red cherry, vanilla, cedar and forest. The taste is layered but complementary with red cherry and raspberry, cedar and light oak, briar and minerality. This is beautifully crafted, medium bodied wine with great balance and bright acidity, a thoroughly elegant wine. I love the finish, cherry silky tannins, minerality and vanilla and strawberry with the strawberry lingering on.

This bottle was much better than the previous bottle. Very smooth, rich and elegant. Dark ruby in color and medium-heavy in weight. Black cherry and cedar on the nose which is also carried on the palate. Mid palate adds a nice addition of blackberries, and a touch of anise and herbs. For $48, it was worth it.

Plums, cherry, and wildberries on nose that is fat and plump, very much like the wine. There is girth here, and even if you are not a fan of the style there is no debating that this a very good expression. Black cherry, red plum, and hints of sassafrass; also structured and powerful.

I decanted for about an hour before tasting. An explosion of rich red fuit and pine forest in the nose. Follows with complex raspberry, cherry and nutmeg flavors with a spicy finish that lingers on and on. Another great effort from Papapietro.
