Hourglass, Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley

Ruby in the glass, notes of blackcurrants in the nose. Medium acidity and tannins, with beautiful palate showing earthy notes, blackcurrants, ripe cherries - ending is medium-long, with some fruit and aromatic wood. In a great spot / starting to age but no tertiary notes yet - if anything, the wine is getting integrated very nicely. Bottle 1/6 - this will further improve in the next few years. Very good!

In my cellar since 2015. Decanted at 5:30pm and tasted from 8-11pm and again the next evening. The 2011 vintage was maligned by many pro’s. IR was certainly a difficult vintage in Napa… especially wet and relatively cool as I recall. It was hard to make a wine line the big modern jammy and over-ripe ones. Decanted for a couple hours before drinking over the next four. Big Napa Cab. Well resolved tannins and silky mouthfeel. explosion of dark fruit including blueberry. Went great with ribeye steak.

Decated 3 hours, Dark Chocolate, vanilla, roasted marshmallow on the nose. Medium deep Garnet, lighter side of full bodied, spice, rich ripe fruit, salted Carmel, cacao. Little longer than a minute finish with excellent after taste wet rocks, caramel from a creme brulee, and hints of vanilla. Consumed with artichokes and lemon mayo.

Acidic and muted fruits mostly define this wine. Blueberry mid palette and cherries on the finish.

For a 2011 it is drinking well with a long decant. (4+hours) My problem is that I had a 2013 TOR BTK last night. No comparison. This has tar and tobacco on the nose. Dark berries with a 30+ second finish. Very nice, but, there are much better for the tariff. (Carter...TOR)

Coravined this bottle over a six month period. Half full. Still as vibrant as if it was just uncorked. Tannins integrated very nicely. Loads of bright red fruits on the palate. Good wine experience. Still has many years left.

Decanted 2 hours. A very I interesting combination of earth and fruit. I would wait a couple of years before the best one.

Had this wine over a 2 night period. The first day it was vanilla and cedar on the nose with similar taste adding blueberry and some blackberry. The second night I sensed it was slightly more methane infused. A similar mouthfeel with the addition of some peppery notes and some prune on the long finish.

Popped/poured. Got a lot of oak initially, both nose and palate. An hour later - the nose has morphed. Relatively aromatic, but much "fresher" than initially. Cab fruit met by a fresh cut field. On the palate, I find it to be balanced. The initial oak blast is gone. In its place, decent fruit, acidity, etc. This is no fruit bomb. Some may find it austere. An understated Cab. Beautiful color - deep, rich purple. Nose foretold a classic California cab, but the palette did not match it. Light taste of berry and spice that died quickly. The performance improved slightly with food and upon opening, but not as robust as expected. A solid cab, but not outstanding.

Decanted about 4-hours, and this wine needed it in a big way. Worth the wait however as the wine unwound into a beauty. Nose: Blackberry, Cassis, Plums and Fig Paste. Sweet Oak, Dry Tobacco, Smoke, Chocolate and Clove. Palate: Velvety smooth, but not plush. Decanted half the bottle which was allowed to rest for 3 hours, followed over two hours. Still just too tight to discern. Color is more like a petite sirah, dark fruit, vanilla and oak on the nose. Blue and blackberry flavors, mouthfeel gives you the sense that its approachable but it still hasn't opened up fully. Let's see how day two goes? Excellent mix of acidity, tannins and ripe fruits. Hints of eucalyptus on the nose threw me for a loop as I mixed this up with the 08 Spottswoode in a blind comparison as these two wines were nearly identical in every way. Improved with extended air and should age gracefully for a few years but very tasty if you like to drink young Napa Cabs.
