The wine looks inky colored. The legs are medium. There is light sediment in the bottle. There are notes of blackberry, plum, and black cherry. Cocoa, violet, and tobacco notes abound. The moderate tannins and medium acidity are delightful.

Dark, smooth and very drinkable now after double decanting and letting it sit for a couple of hours to come together. A lot of power and it stood up perfectly to our short rib.

Continues to be my favorite Argentinean Malbec. Drinking really well with 6 years of age. Same notes as previously.

Needs about 3 hrs in the decanter to open up and integrate on the back palate. Opulent, blue and black fruited, chocolate, spice, minor herbal dusty nuisances, lush, weighted, mouth filling and a real pleasure. No rush, but I like where this is now, still primary and very charming.

Needs a good decant but I love this wine. Deep purple. Very fruit forward on the nose of blackberry, black cherry and plum. Notes of cocoa and baking spice. Tannins are silky and structured with nice acidity. Medium bodied.

This bottle was decanted for an hour and would have benefited from a couple more as it continued to improve with time in the glass. An excellent expression of malbec in a large-scale but nuanced format. Fragrant notes of cassis, blackberry, damson plum and some green bell pepper. Rich dark-fruited palate with a creamy texture and excellent tension on the long finish. Lovely.

Decently colored, but rather light in weight with an astringent, very tannic feel on the palate, this medium-bodied wine does not appear to have the fruit to outdistance the tannin Disappointing !

My opinion of this wine hasn’t changed one iota since my last bottle. It’s big, pure and very drinkable. I’m going to give it one more point from last time, because it was so ready to drink with a good steak at Flemings, Las Vegas.

Definitely a great wine. Concentrated black cherry. Some licorice, spice and tobacco, but not so implicit yet. Long finish. My impression it was perhaps a bit early for this one. Even on day two it hadn’t calmed down. But that’s a matter of taste too.

Absolutely huge. Enormous. I have no idea how to rate it - it's serious and well made. Perhaps flawless at doing it's thing. Not necessarily to my taste but fair play. Mega malbec it is. I have another bottle. I'll give it a few years and see where it goes.

Been some nice reviews for this lately so thought about opening one on HMC's taco night....decanted about 90 minutes. Served blind...difficult to tell it was a Malbec....on the nose lots of dark red fruit, with the very slightest bit of sage. No twiggy, green elements to speak of. Dark garnet/purple in the glass. Round, rich blue and dark red fruit on the palate. Excellent weight in the mouth. Consistent throughout. Balanced and smooth, but not spectacular. Solid 93 maybe 94 …

An explosion of blueberry, cherry, vanilla and spice, followed by nice acidity and really smooth tannins. Definitely one of the best Malbecs I’ve had, is it worth the price? I don’t know. There are a lot of very good bottles of wine available for $100

Well, this is a big, primary brute. Black and dark red fruits on the nose and palate. Tobacco leaf. Vanilla. Fairly well structured. Checks all the boxes. Stylistically, it comes off as a cultish Napa wannabe, which isn’t necessarily bad if you like that sort of thing. Tannic, yes, but they’re smooth and sweet, grippy not bludgeoning. Moderate acid. Bittersweet chocolate and Chambord towards the finish. I PnP’d, and tasted just a couple of minutes after swirling my pour. Drank …

Dark purple. Decanted briefly. Aromas and flavors of dark berries and leather. Soft tannins. Bright, balanced acid. Wonderful! This one was in my wine fridge for the last five yesrs. Msybe that’s why it still seems to have life in it. Not beyond its drinking window, but likely not getting better. So, I’d say drink in 2-3 years if it has been stored well.

Opaque purple. Fragrant nose of cassis, blackberry, damson plum and some green bell pepper. Rich dark-fruited palate with a creamy texture and excellent tension on the long finish. This drank best over the first 2 hours following which it slowly became disjointed. The score reflects the peak drinking experience.

8 years since my last bottle... Opened in the morning and slow ox'ed until dinner at at an Argentinian steak house together with an 09 Fieuzal and a 18 Radio Silence. Dark garnet in the glass, plenty of dark berries, some leather, nice but fairly foursquare, short finish. I thought the 09 Fieuzal that followed was head and shoulders above this in terms of not only depth and complexity but also refinement. One of the guests had this however as …

Deep purple. Very reticent nose suggesting dark and blue berry fruit, some cocoa and mineral hints although never really achieved lift-off despite 3 hours of air. Quite plush and polished on the palate but the fruit remained very subdued. No signs of oxidation. While certainly enjoyable, this may not have been the best bottle given other reviewers' notes.

Blackberry and black currant. Terrific depth and concentration of flavors, saturating every pore without weight, supported by fine but powerful tannins. Long finish. So balanced it is drinking great now, but with that kind of concentration and structure one would think it could go on for a long time.

Time has been good to this Catena Zapata Malbec. Fresh aromas of forest floor, dark berries, coffee and coca. Soft tannins and a long finish come across with hints of coffee, chocolate, spice & beautifully ripened and not too sweet blackberries. Most likely at its peak now.
