Pelan, Francs-Cotes de Bordeaux

Really enjoyed this. Nice soft aged Bordeaux. Red fruits, cedar, pencil lead.

Dark fruit, meat, and cigarettes on the nose on first opening, at about 50 degrees. Dark fruit, nori, cedar, slight vanilla on palate. Medium body, some noticeable tannin, moderate finish (10-15 second). On 2nd day and at room temperature, nose and palate both smoother and sweeter, with vanilla more prominent. Cigarette aroma gone, and had actually dissipated after a couple hours on first night. Liked this quite a bit for the money ($13 on sale). Nice weight, some complexity.

This was pretty interesting at $19.95 for a 15 year-old bottle. Black-ruby with a red rim. Good legs, too! Browning slightly, but quite amazing for a wine of its pedigree. Just shows how great such wines can be in a stellar vintage. Kept open overnight. Initially lots of cedar in nose and mouth, with a bit of vanilla. Eucalyptus also. Seems like it has deepened a bit to exhibit some black fruit and earth. Not tired in the least. Still …
