Medium to deep gold. Pear, apricot, citrus, honey, and some minerality. Medium bodied, medium plus acidity, ripe, mild sticky on the palate, with some sweetness in the back. Long finish. This wine has an Alsace-like mouth feel and brilliant texture, but I miss the concentration and energy from Mosel and Saar.

Stone. Gravel. A Man, working under the sun. It’s 2007, late summer. He is harvesting the grapes. Painstakingly. Yet methodically. He know he hold gold on his hands. 18 years later. Honey. Chestnut. Dried apricots. A little fig. And the palate delivers a whoomph. Absolutely amazing. Best Riesling I’ve had in a long time.

A few wines for Chinese New Year (Chicago, IL) : Now this, this is Austrian wine I can get behind. The nose is intoxicating, with a complex array of fruit -- the typical riesling apple of course, but also more exotic things like mangos and melons. On the palate, there's a phenolic/green herb thing that makes this distinct from Clos Ste. Hune or a German GG. The weight is definitely Keller-level, and there's a sweetness to the fruit that I …

Some serious whites : Crumbly cork and a dark golden colour, for me way too advanced but others didn't mind it so much. Smelled like a sweet wine actually, rather flat on first pour but got better in the decanter. Very impressive depth but the fruit and acidity was rather muted. No oomph or magic to the wine but I think this was not a representative bottle.

Tasting evening with Bas en Lennart (Thuis) : At 15 years just amazing, what a powerhouse and what a length and complexity! Deep golden in color sourced purely from the Loibenberg vineyard in Wachau. On the nose a bit of petrol, a bit medicinal, floral, tangerine, minerality, fennel, ripe pineapple. On the palate citrus, floral, ripe mango, apricot, ripe oranges. Extremely long finish (hence the name of course), it goes on for minutes. Full bodied with high acidity

10 years after Riesling tasting - 2010 (Restaurant Holz und Feuer, Kirchheim, Germany) : *** brief impression from tasting event, no detailed tasting note *** Glass: Gabriel Standard and Sophienwald Bordeaux Bottle opened at noon, double decanted. Drunk about 8-10h later. Clear, medium golden color. Nose with some band aid and stony mineral notes. Very lean, never fat or hot. Deep and lots of pressure. Very good acidity, lots of mineral notes, some band aid /medicinal notes in the background. …

Clear, deep golden color. Clean, deep nose, with a surprising ripeness. On the palate the leanest wine of this decade. Good acidity, alcohol well integrated. Very deep, lots of pressure, very long. Poured to me blind, happy to report that I correctly guessed variety, country, region, and producer - I don't mean to brag but that may only happen once for me! It's a style I'm very familiar with so I had a leg up. Brilliant yellow in the glass, slightly hazy. Immediately recognisable notes of Riesling: the classic terpenes, musk, citrus essence, white peach... a little tropical fruit here too, dried apricot note. Something stony and chalky in there too. Considerable …

Quite a lot of saffron and honey on the nose. Full-bodied and powerful, with high intensity, firm acidity and warming alcohol in the long finish. Impressive or overdone, as you wish. Anyway fairly heavy to drink.

Rich lemon yellow. The style of this wine is designed for unruly strength, density and variety. 2006 was an extreme year in the Wachau with a very high degree of maturity. Nevertheless, the 06er 'Infinite' is not a monster. He has 15% alcohol, which is also noticeable, but with all the body, enamel and density, there is an opponent in the form of slight bitterness and an acid that has a hard time, but does their hard work properly. The …

Riesling SWAG (Restaurant Vlet, Hometown, Hamburg) : As I told you before I am not a fan or an expert on austrian Riesling, on the nose easily aromas like a german BA, on the palate bonedry, enormously fullbodied, high Abv, I guess around 14- 15%, dried fruit, very long but overall not really my cup of Riesling!

Quite fat and closed right now. This one needs a lot of air. Great body and structure, nicely integrated acidity. Honey, lime and marzipan on the palate, extra long finish. Very interesting to see how it will age.

What a fat snail. Golden yellow. In the nose lots of exotic fruits, very ripe peaches and apricots, overripe apples and lots of spices. Add to that a strong mineral. Altogether a highly aromatic Riesling with a lot of body. Soft surface, very material and incredibly dense and thick. Behind that is a salty minerality and again lots of spices. The high alcohol disturbs something, especially when the wine gets warmer in the glass. Aromatic and alcoholic length.

"10 Years After" Riesling (Private Location) : I think, I'll never become a fan of F.X. Pichlers Unendlich. It's simply not my style. Very, very ripe aromatics of dried apricots, honey, overripe yellow stone fruit, asian spices and some smoke. The palate is even riper. Acidity is on a good level imo, but there is so much extract and sweetness which is killing the fine components for me. I could hardly finished my glass. The Quality is definitely there, but …

Incredible, but in a somewhat awkward and pubescent place right now. Still tons of acidity, notes of honey/honeysuckle, more residual sugar than, say, loibner berg... but then there are these muted secondary saffron and coriander notes that are starting to come through in a not so subtle way that.. detract and distract! (??) from the wine. Light gold, much lighter than i expected for 11 years old. Long, lingering finish. Yum. Can't wait to come back to this in a …

Medium+ intense, wonderful developing nose with a beautiful bouquet of fine herbs, ripe yellow stone fruit, “Marille” (apricot). Really great! "The day is the day": TK is turning 29.5 years old (Zurich) : Tasted blind: Ripe yellow. Sweet ripe fruits (Peach). Nice sweetness but quite fat. Good salty minerality accompanied by berries. This is much better than the 2003 GV in the glass next to it, but still not at the level of many of the (often more affordable) German Rieslings. Drink now - 2015.

Holy smokes this is a serious wine. Much more layered and dense than the other two riesling. I'd say conservatively this wine could use another decade. I gave it several hours of air but it was just beginning to open up. Massive massive wine. The mineral and pepper notes attack the palate and linger. The name serves this wine well.

I was full of expectation for this bottle. A bit scared of how 14,5% Riesling would taste, as I prefer the lighter Mosel-styled Rieslings. On the nose it was not at all tropical, but very typcial mineral Wachau-Riesling with some floral elements. Some peach and tarragon, but the mineral and lime dominates. In the mouth very concentrated, but not too much. A very long finish, although perhaps too much alcohol. I am hesitant to rate the wine; it has a …

Smells like it's going to be a sweetish, more spatlese style wine, and tastes way drier than you'd figure from the scent but still has a texture slicker than you ordinarily get in a wine as dry as this. I was expecting a huge wine but this is way less intense than the M in every respect and more in line with normal ripeness levels. Doesn't taste like a super-cuvee, but it's lovely stuff.

Incredibly expressive and aromatic with bright flavours of melon, pineapple, mango and lime infused with a massive rocky mineral character with notes of pine cones and orange peel emerging with more air. East Village Riesling Extravaganza (New York) : This has an explosive nose showing incredibly ripe mango, pineapple and melon flavours over rocky minerals and a little perceptible alcohol. In the mouth this feels bigger and riper than the '07 Unendlich with massive fruit and mineral flavours that echo the nose, but without the same sense of balance and precision.
