Now this is interesting.... I got the opportunity to drink another bottle of this wine. When I initially opened it yesterday, and gave it about 3 hours to develop. My notes were quite similar to those of 7 months ago. If anything, the aroma's seemed to be leaning a little more towards oxidative ones. Hinting at a firm 'past peak' qualification. But today, when I poured a glass from the remaining half bottle, it was a much more lively and …

Querce Bettina Rosso di Montalcino vertical 2009 - 2021; 6/3/2024-6/5/2024 (At home) : Medium light ruby-brick color. Aromas of dark cherry, leather, hay and some wet earth. Medium-full bodied with smooth, integrated tannins and balanced acidity. A medium - long finish that follows through seamlessly and remains fresh. This wine is slightly past peak, but still healthy and quite enjoyable. Drink now.

Very much in line with the previous bottle. Pairing with the food was excellent this time (wild boar stew). This pushed my appreciation up just enough to warrant a notch up in rating. Regardless of the rating: this is a fine Rosso di Montalcino. An in particular at this pricepoint some stiff competition for several less perfect Brunelli out there.

Nicely evolved over the past year. More ripe aromas but still a very fresh and evolving palate. Aromas of cherry and blackcurrant with some leather and red licorice and hints of wet earth. Full bodied with smooth tannins that nicely intrgrate with the sweet fruit and fresh acidity. The finish is very long with a slightly bitter twist to it. Still going strong and even slightly improved (almost a notch up...). Better than some Brunello of the same vintage! I …

My third bottle of this wine in a relatively short time. Very much in line with the previous two. The initial unpleasant barnyard seems to be consistent and not to do with bottle variation. After half an hour this is gone, and a very pleasurable wine emerges.

Initially some barnyard, but this blew off after a while. This wine is similar to '07 in character. Perhaps slightly less full bodied. Fresh aromas of cherry and some blackcurrant with hints of leather, fresh berries and floral aromas. Full bodied with smooth tannins and sweet fruit. A long and fresh finish. Could use 1-2 more years in the bottle to balance out a little more, but quite nice already. Drink now - 2016
