Duncan Savage, Thief in The Night, Western Cape

One of the best Grenache's I have hadbin a while. Excellent. Smooth, good nose. Will also age.

Slightly less aromatic than Follow the Line, Thief in the Night displays the purity and power of Grenache. Cherries, bramble, herbs and subtle spice with a savoury tension and firm chalky tannins. This 2024 is what we expect of the vineyard with a touch more texture and grip due to the riper picking, a wine that will develop well over the next 10-15 years.

Normally not a Grenache fan, but this is nice, even if simple. Translucent like a Pinot Fruitforward on the palate. Straightforward, simple raspberries. No second layer. A good party wine, less suited for dinners.

Great mixture of red and dark red fruits. Juicy, meaty and aromatic

Spectacular summertime wine. The grenache and cinsaut dominate the syrah which is really only there in spirit (and on the lable). Apparently the grenache is from the same Vineyard as Sadie's Soldaat and it shows. Plenty of layers and depth from the grenache while the cinsaut adds that unfined texture to the fruitiness. Yum.

Really complex wine. Would have went for a Syrah ar first, peppery and meaty. Mid palate did develop to a profile more similar to grenache. Feels like a northern Rhone on the nose and Beaujolais in mouth. Balanced acidity, fine and smooth tannins, the amounts of layers amaze me all the time. Lacks deep, and potential for ageing for an even higher grade. Drink within four years
