1st bottle was weirdly corked with a nose that developed into ammonia, flat taste. Second bottle from cellar in perfect condition; nose of dark fruits and plum with notes of bitter chocolate, some sweet oak; palate tastes of rich ripe cherry w/ some currant, complex secondary notes of herbs, after-scents of sweet cherry tobacco; smooth texture with everything integrated but still bright. Delicious with rack of lamb. Won't improve past this.

Had this at a dinner with a friend over a tomahawk steak. I did not take notes at dinner because that annoys people but this wine still has a ton of youth in it. I let this air for about 90 minutes. Soft transparent red color. Faint aromas of red fruits. Smooth and polished on the palate. Muted red fruits and a distinct green note. Fine, drying tannins. Nice acidity and balance. Finishes long but faint with dark fruits. Past peak but it must have been lovely in its youth.

This has a rich, oaky, opulence to it that's classy and although I'll invoke a lot of descriptors that I generally use negatively this isn't a bad wine. In fact, it's delightful in the way that old Cali wines often are: forward, full flavor, cocoa, espresso, Ribena, tobacco, suave tannin, ever so slightly sweet from a toasty oak treatment. Sometimes this style really hits the spot.

Popped n poured with zero expectations. What a pleasant surprise to find this wine drinking quite nicely, still with plenty of sweet fruit--more dried than fresh fruit, however--with some spice, and a slight earthy pruniness. Tannins fully resolved. The wine looks its age but certainly was very well-preserved in my cellar for all of these years.

Purchased at auction with reported good provenance. Still with light purplish color and mild bricking. On the nose matured cabernet nose with strong herbs and some musty cherries. Couleur brique avec teinte brune au pourtour, on voit bien l'âge. Nez sur les prunes, cerise noire, viande, chocolat et fumé. En bouche, on retrouve sensiblement la même chose que les arômes, mais la finale est caramélisée et un peu alcoleuse (même si seulement 13.5%). Pas des plus complexes mais agréable seul ou avec plat tomaté acide pour balancer le sucre.

Bordeaux Perfection! This Reserve blend from an excellent vintage by an excellent producer is one sets the benchmark standard. Give it an hour to really excel, but the floral aroma is immediately wafting around the room and the luscious foamy blackberry is completely smooth and beautiful. I remain a HUGE fan.

Magical California Bordeaux! Absolutely perfect blend of floral bouquet and black cherry/blackberry aroma that was wonderfully smooth. Definitely not past its best at age 17.

Pnp. The nose opens up with plum, tea leafs, tobacco, earth and mushroom. Palate is initially old and tired. After 20 mins, the acidity slowly emerges with sweet dark fruit and tea. The tannins are resolved. Perhaps drinking off the peak but the tertiary amd secondary note are enjoyable. 90+

Delightful! Just the right fruit balanced perfectly. Great floral aroma. Lucious blackberry dark cherry Bordeaux like magic. Mt Veeder mixed the magic elixir years ago.

Pleasant, though quite simple and oddly a touch too sweet and almost nonexistent secondary notes. Not the profile I would expect for a 25 year old wine.

Best for last. This was my last bottle, and probably the best of them all. Wonderful layering of 5 nobles but with a clear California over-ripeness. Some dried herbs, sweet Oak and hints of cassis. 20 second finish and near silky on palate.

Not my best bottle over the past year. It took about 30 minutes for the funk/age to blow off, but even then this bottle was a bit tired compared to others I've had recently. Still, however, a perfectly lovely Meritage with red, black and blue fruits in that order, soft Oak, dill and other herbs.

There is some funk when first opening, but after 30 to 40 minutes, the wine comes around fully. Sweet and perky black, blue and red fruits, a little bit of spice and sweet Oak. Very smooth wine with a 20 second finish. A real bargain.

Another excellent bottle. Pop and pour and within 15 minutes in the glass it was fully blooming. Beautiful layers of black, blue and some red fruits. A little leather and dried herbs too. Very smooth with a 20+ second finish.

This bottle was from a differnt auction lot than prior bottles and although the storage seems great (into neck, solid cork and capsule and color) this bottle was clearly more advanced than others I've had. The fruit had started to fade a bit, although still present and very enjoyable. Both overripe and slightly sour red fruits with black fruits in the background, sweet Oak, some hints of leather and tobacco.

had to decant for about an hour to open up and settle. Not past prime, but a bit weak once opened up. Would not rush to get again. Will not put more of this Winery in my collection.

Very solid cork. Just into neck fill. Surpisingly little bricking and solid purple to core. Slightly sour black cherries, blue berries and hints of raspberry. I love the 5 Noble Grapes blend. Some cedar and pencil shavings with very modest sweet Oak. The tannins still had some backbone but they were pliable, smooth and long. Finish was 30 seconds. Very little sediment. I bought this wine at a small liquor store that had a lot of gems, if they were cared for properly. The cork crumbled and the entire flavor profile was muted.

worried that I waited too long but was wrong. Aged color but not yet bricking. A little barnyard on the nose. Still some tannnic structure but I think it is time to drink now to the next 2 years. Balanced red fruit flavors and integrated oak. Could use some complexity.

I tried this wine three weeks ago and decided to go back to the hole in the wall liquor store to get the rest of the bottles that were on the shelf. There was absolutely no oak present, the wine had a brownish hue and was a bit flat. I have five other opportunities to revisit this bottling.

Did not have much to offer when first opened. The second night (after being on argon) it became a very pleasurable wine. The tannins are well integrated and the nose, taste and finish all represent a fine aged California cab blend. Should drink well for another 5 years with adequate decant time and airation.

Decanted, then consumed over dinner. Garnet with looong legs. Cherry and tobacco with a hint of lead pencil in the nose. Cherry with underlying tree fruit, tobacco, spice, and barely perceptible tannins in the mouth after a moderate finish. Nicely mature and drinkable.

This bottle surprised me, as I wasn't expecting much given the CT reviews and the poorly rated 2000 vintage from Napa. Blend of 5 grapes from a tough year in Napa. Maybe it just needed more time.
