Opened a few hours before dinner, then drunk over dinner. The nose is classic Barolo, quite tarry with hints of leather and underlying red fruit. Intoxicating and beguiling. Almost weightless on the palate, but at the same time earthy, almost ferrous and with perceivable tannins, firm for a fleeting moment, and very fine-grained. Still young and with many years ahead, but wonderful to drink now.

Ongoing discussion of the 04 Barolo's are maturing faster than expected. This one is not! Absolutely better on day two, and on the first day it needs a few hours to open up, and the fruit quality really improves, becomes more complex and the wine gains more balance. Needs a couple of hours to open up fully, with beautiful old-school aromatics such as mint and camphor, leather and earth, raspberry coulis, salty liquorice and oriental spice. The taste has excellent build and balance, with serious concentration and tannins rounded by age. Nice minty sensations follow on the finish, which also offers spicy warmth, without being hot. Ready to go after proper aeration, with many years left.

Needed an hour or rather two in the decanter to really get going. Complex nose with oriental spice, earth, tobacco, leather, and more. Fairly dark old-school cherry fruit, rippled with sweet raspberries. Beautiful tannin structure, studded with spicy, gritty minerality. Long, lovely, rewarding finish. Stylewise, Fenocchio's '04 Bussia Riserva is as true to terroir as can be. It's still early days, and it should develop well for another fifteen years at least.

The score is both aspirational and possibly a bit low depending upon what unfolds. A pricey " bargain" at a restaurant revealed, after an hour in the decanter, only a hint of fading alcohol and emergence of some hidden tobacco, sweet earth, dark cherry and smokey leather. Starting to get there although I found the wine best on day three (corked bottle for each glass) so no wonder it needs air to reveal itself. Great balance now, tannins are softening, but the fruit is lacking some mature depth still. No rush at all with these ones, but I will take mine every now and then over the next few years. Really great price/value ratio!

Light red, transparent with bricking rim. Quite evolved on the nose with dark fruit, mint, liquorice, forest floor and truffel. bherbs and flowers. Good complexity. Very nice to sniff! On the palate elegant, dark fruit with rounded tannins and soft acidity. Perhaps a bit thin on the mid palate. A hint of alcoholic warmth on the finish. As good, or even better, on day two.

Nice, clean typical nose with cherries, some "tobacco and tar" and flowers, with main focus on fruit and flowers. Fresh, medium full and elegant mouth feel, not the weight I remember from previous vintages. Is it a tad "one dimensional" at this stage? But a very nice, typical Barolo.

Importer tasting (@ PA) : The Bussia Riserva is the most complex wine of the four I tasted of this domain. Full bodied and complex. Earthy, roses, tar, cherries etc. A lot of good and firm tannin, but also elegant and supple. Will improve over the next 8 - 10 years. 91+

Quicknote The youngest Fenocchio brother told me this was kinda of a untypical vintage. Still, a lot of flavors, soft and round tannins.
