This was my last bottle. A wine that has given immense pleasure, excellent qpr. Syrah through and through and mellow. An old friend, it had lost its exuberance, but then maybe so have I to a degree. Vale.

Dark garnet red with no signs of ageing. On the nose: saddle leather and saddle soap, damask rose, copper and underlain by plum. Once it has been open a few hours the nose is suffused with dark muscovado sugar. Medium full body, liquorice, leather, bay and other herbs, some acidity and tannin; good with food. Drinking well now, probably has at least 2 more years.

Mellow now and showing typical aged Northern Rhone character but with a good core of spicy fruit. Very enjoyable.

Must be decanted - there's a lot of sediment. The colour alone tells you this is a serious wine, very dark and dense, purple garnet-red. A fruity nose of blackcurrants, barnyards, plums, leather and dark wine gums. Really full in the mouth with tannins just beginning to soften, tobacco, some acidity, herbs (rosemary/bay) and agen prunes. Lovely stuff, a very appealing wine from an area that all too often fails to live up to its reputation.

I'm getting meaty expressions of roasting pan juices, tar, licorice, plus ripe blackberries intermingled with smoky oak from this wine. A little hotness from the alcohol despite only 13.5%, but balanced by an array of black fruits and some creamy oak on the finish, which is quite long and lingering. Pop and pour. Dark red/purple color, light nose strawberry, cherry, plum..some mineral, heat, pepper. Soft tannin, good mouth feel. After a couple hours opened up more and the pepper is heat has fallen off, while the fruit is more intense. Excellent! Smoking good QPR.

Pop and Pour, deep dark color, light nose fruit some alcohol/heat...good mouth feel, light tannin, dark fruits, mineral a little heat but not much. After 2 hrs open up with more fruit on the nose and even less heat, real nice wine.

Ooooooooohhhh, la la. Much more distinguished than its 'lesser' appellation denotes. Hermitage-like in its deep extraction. Black pepper, beef blood, blackberry, blacktop, asphalt, leather, smoked rosemary. Pure terroir. This is why I love Crozes. This is SO good. Ridiculous for the price. I'm not sure what these other reviewers were tasting. If you love Northern Rhone, this is the wine for you.

Smell: rich dark fruit (cassis, plums) with some sweetness, spice and some floral notes Taste: dark fruit with medium/low acid, soft tannins, very balanced and quite long finish. Popped and poured. Had a taste at the pop, but let sit in the glass for about 90 minutes before really diving in. At the pop, the aromatics were jumping out with meatty, smoky and floral aromas. I love this wine for its very clean, classical syrah-fruit. It has the tightness of a young syrah, olives, garrigue, bacon etc., yet it is easy to drink, while maintaining character. medium bodied wtih well integrated tannin, very good balance indeed. Random Rhones (Menlo Park) : Decanted. Lifted, black raspberry and sweet plum nose. Medium bodied with low to medium acidity. Juicy black cherry and blackberry fruit. A bit sweet, but otherwise nice.

Really good right now, with a lot of structure left. I expect it to improve a little bit still, with the peak coming in a year or so.

Decanted and poured, this wine showed in a rich forward style with enough black pepper, tar, leather and inky elements to keep it interesting. The wine shows a dark ruby to purple color that is youthful and vibrant. The medium/full bodied palate shows forward fruit with enough underlying Northern Rhone character to balance the forwardness. This drinks well now and may improve with an additional year or two of bottle age.

Northern Rhone Releases Around the Bay (Beltramo's, Menlo Park and San Francisco Wine Trading Company) : Deep but not opaque. Fragrant with forest floor and herbal tones. Medium to full bodied. Fruit not as sweet as in the Barruol Crozes. Here, more obvious acid, tannin and grip-in short, more traditionally structured. Some floral notes emerge. Good.

A dry, sleek Syrah with the initial fruit a bit muted now with a few years in the cellar. There's still plenty of acidity and tannins left and I'll hold off opening another bottle for at least another year.

Either its in a very long tunnel, otherwise it has seen its best days. Very anonymous and not very complex Crozes-Hermitage. Spicy, raw meat, liquorice, fried bacon and hints of non-revealing dark fruit.

Rhone / Languedoc-Roussillon / Southwest (Wine Exchange in Orange, CA) : Medium red violet. Brett rears its head for the first time in this tasting, but it doesn't overwhelm, allowing some ashtray and animale notes through. Elegant; bright but just lightly extracted.

Purple colour. Young, primary, rather shy nose of licorice, aniseed, brambles, blackberries, pepper, green vegetables as well as a perfumed resinous quality. On the palate the wine is medium-bodied with dark cool fruit, rather nice concentration, nice acidity, and some length. Young but very nice.
