Full body, dark purple to inky colour. Intense fruit mix aroma and a bit heavy palate, jammy and spicy finish. Young and sharp, too simple and unbalanced but silky tannins and juicy acidity, drinkable with kebab. Open one hour ahead. Serve 16ºC - 18ºC. Drink now.

Took a flyer for $4 at Grocery Outlet. Not good. Foxy, reductive aromas and a thin, plonky flavor. Wasn't expecting anything more than good, but not a value even at this price. Not sure if past its prime or mishandled; no matter, it went down the sink. Not flawed, just bad.

Red fruit and spicy minerality, driving energy, clarity, force, prescision, a bit vapid in the middle but just opened.

A private dinner (Restaurant En, Amsterdam, NL) : Juicy, forward, youthful, minerals, fleshy black cherries, lovely spicy depth, skin tannins provide attractive grip, medium weight, creamy palate, balanced and elegant, good length, alpine herbs on the finish.

Great wine for the price. Smells savory with black fruits and violets. Tastes of dark berries, walnuts, violets, herbs, with a slight minerality. The wine has a very short finish. Fantastic with spaghetti marinara!

Occasional blind tasting (@ TWo) : Creamy bouquet with red and dark berries and some herbs. Same creamy fruits on the palate, some vanilla and sweet spices. A firm amount of acidity and supple tannin. Light bodied. Not really impressive.

Dramatic label overhaul. Smells like roasty oak on the nose. Then fruit driven mid palate. Works it out at $14 or so in Bierzo.

4th Saturday Group brown bagger (Rich & Dana's) : Inky crimson color. Meaty red and dark fruit notes with vanilla overtones. Full-bodied with firm tannins and flavors of red fruit, new oak and vanilla. Simple.

Remarkably similar to my previous tasting. Tasted on second night. Sandalwood, clove, blackberry in a tannin driven wine.

Popped and poured, consumed over 2 days. Note from first night at about 3 hours. Dark sandalwood nose with undertones of clove and brambly blackberry. On the palate this is lacking acid and is driven by the tannins. Liked it more earlier on where dark fruits were also at play but now this is disappointing. Will check back tomorrow. Night two more balanced with a softer nose a dark fruit palate. Texturally though this is still a tannin driven wine …

Drinking well now, showing some evolution. Again, I liked this wine.

100% Mencia - cherry nose with some herbal notes- carried through with a medium weight wine with a nice dark cherry core, some rosemary-fresh savory- little bit of earthiness and nice soft finish - I liked this and curious to see how other versions of this grape are-

Stem and spice on the nose. Pronouced aromatically but not in the fruit direction. Vibrant with high acid across the palate. Tannins come up to clip the finish. With character, well done at $14.

Drank at a tasting with 9 other bottles, did not come around to this until almost 2 hours after opening. Plummy nose of red fruit, licorice, minerals. Medium bodied, finish was a bit short, perhaps waited too long. The rating could be a bit low as I did not taste the beginning. Belive this wine can drank from the bottle.

Red fruit and a bit of iron on the nose. On the palate, bright red fruit on top, a bit of metal in the middle and a red licorice finish. Unique wine, but not quite up to Miller's score.

I did not like this wines profile at all. Fruity but harsh up front with a short finish. The nose was Beaujolais like but with high notes of alcohol. Drank half the bottle and dumped the rest.

This is a great value @ $16.95. Perfect balance for drinking right now, bright acidity matched by ripe berry fruit and understated tannins. I read this wine sees both French and American oak, but I couldn't detect any oakiness at all. A good match with roast beef (rib). Despite the ripeness of this wine there is no heat on the palate, which can be a concern with some wines like this.

Headrick/European Cellars Portfolio Tasting (Boston) : 7/30/10: Spicy nose. Concentrated. Black pepper, as if smelling a N. Rhone. On the palate the spice continues, a chalkiness, and red fruits. Medium bodied. Soft tannins. A juiciness on the finish despite the richness of the wine. Great stuff. 89 3/1/10: This is so much better than the '07. Tons of delicious spicy notes. Black pepper. So yummy and tasty, and also not over the top, but restrained. 88+

ChTR kokous 27.1.2010 (SKO-toimisto) : Decanted for an hour, tasted double blind. A rather dark red. The nose was full of dark berries and plum with a bit of a citrusy side whiff. Lots of tannins on the palate, also grapefruit here as well as dark berries and some kind of meatiness to it. Quite an enjoyable wine, but needs food to go with! 50+4+9+15+8=86
