Hexamer, Meddersheimer Rheingrafenberg Riesling Spatlese, Nahe

Diese Spätlese hat mehr als nur positiv überrascht! Goldene Farbe, frischer Duft von gelben Früchten und Trauben, am Gaumen sehr frisch, sogar noch ein wenig Kohlensäure bemerkbar. Perfekte Süße/Frucht/Säure-Spiel. Wahnsinnig komplex, Druck am Gaumen, sehr lang und trinkanimierend. Wäre der Zucker noch mehr integriert (wahrscheinlich in 3-5 Jahren), wären noch mehr Punkte drin. Sensationell für den Preis!

Served with sweet glazed Christmas ham. The pairing worked. The wine has good structure and midweight heft, was able to hang with the glaze. The petrol notes were coming through, really enjoyed this. Has aged very nicely.

UNP. Light gold color. Dense fruit. Intense RS. Acid balances but just. Finishes long and satisfying. Still seems auslese in weight. Wow.

So pure. Served with fresh picked strawberries. Outstanding dessert pairing. Acidity played nicely together. A lighter profile Spat, dances on the palate. Delicious now, still showed young though.

Left over from Thanksgiving. A wee bit darker in color thanks to the lost Stelvin cap, but still wonderful fruit and a hint of petrol.

UNP (unscrewed and poured). Light gold color. This has an olfactory assault and I get mostly pineapple and citrus marmalade. Swishing shows considerable acid spine but this is almost overrun by the RS. Sipping allows the fruit and RS to assert itself fully, and this is really substantial on the palate. Finish lasts 30+ seconds. This seems more like an auslese to me and is infantile and very primary. Major contrast to the quartzit from the same vintage which is …

Egads I have to buy more riesling. This is a really nice wine although I'll admit for my taste it's quite sweet, almost cloying. Fun to drink, opulent, a crowd pleaser.

Big, fleshy, open wine. Explosive fruit on the nose and in the glass. The riesling to serve if you want to show off what purity of fruit German Riesling can show. Not an intellectual wine, rather just an in your face fun wine to drink. Definitely on the sweeter side for a Spat but I'm not complaining. A crowd pleaser.

Skurnik/Theise Spring Tasting (City Winry) : Very sweet, dessert like. Intense. 91-93

Very ripe and bright with lots of sweet tropical fruit, apple, peach and melon flavours mingled with floral elements and minerals. Really fun wine that showed very well served slightly cold, with the sweetness handling the heat of the Szechuan food quite nicely and a long finish.

This is stunning! Explosive aromatics of flowers, apple, mandarin orange, spices and minerals, tremendous in the mouth with serious depth and intensity of flavour and yet incredibly light - almost weightless - with fantastic acidity, balance and length. Under $30, under screwcap as well - I need to buy more of this.
