Light to medium red color. Dark cherry bouquet. Supple red fruit flavor. Astringent abrupt finish. I think this was a more vibrant wine 4-5 years ago. Beginning to drop fruit now.

Seems like there may be some bottle variation on this. At 15, this one holding strong and did blossom a bit more with time in glass. Packed red fruits, spice, smoke wisps. But I would drink, not hold.

Initially a bit soft, but with time it firms up to show earth, smoke, red fruit and an acid-tinged finish. Very nice Pinot showing definite New Zealand character.

From 75cl screwcap, opened 2 hours in advance, as I was hoping for the miracle recorded in my TN of 25.05.2017. Stewed medium-red plummy-cherry fruit, strong acidity, 14,5% alc. and powerful sweetness fight it out on the finish. Should have drunk up a year ago. Bye bye... 85-87P

From 75cl screwcap. On opening: Good, bright red-fruited PN scent, but stale and oxidised-elderly on the palate. After 90 minutes(!) in the glass an unexpected miracle: Fresh, balanced, light, dancing, mature, high-quality NZ PN. Go figure. But please decant an hour before serving... 89P(?)

Mid-red. Quite masculine, obvious Pinot nose. Red fruits. Quite bright, with a degree of fragrance but has a certain unappealing heftiness to it. The screw cap will keep it together, but I would drink sooner rather than later.

From 75cl, screwcap. Promising bright cherry scent; violently acidic entry; attractive inky-soy sauce-tinged midpalate. Probably just over the hill: Can't believe this is the same wine which I thought lacked "acid balance" only 3 years ago. 88P

Not bad, but this bottle was less my style. Heavy, sweet fruit without enough freshness.

From 75cl screwcap. decanted 2 hours, probably a mistake. My previous bottle in June 2013 was so sweet and jammy I waited three years... Probably 1 year too long? Tawny colour with brownish edge, this is still a delicious NZ PN with all the hallmarks of previous mature Pegasus Bay PNs I have had the pleasure to indulge in. I would, however, now recommend P+P, a cooler temperature, and drinking up within the next 1 -2 years. 89P

Friday Night at Davyd's (Pine Close) : Tasted blind. Appearance is clear, pale intensity, ruby colour with garnet tinge. Legs. Nose has an initial whiff of earthy barnyard that blows off. Medium+ intensity, with aromas of sweet baking spices, roasted earth, dark red fruits. Developed. On the palate, dry, medium+ acidity, medium+ alcohol (13.5%), medium+ tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of sweet baking spices, roasted earth, dark red cherries, redcurrants, slight plums, and sweet tea leaves. Very good …

Chatham. A good solid (not damning with faint praise) Pinot Noir, drinking well but with a couple of years ahead of it too.

Medium to full style, spice and earthiness, oak and tannin in nice balance. Smooth and supply palate, no rough edges, time seems to be working it is favour at the moment. I quite liked this wine and pairs well with food. It has enough interest in the flavour profile to stop it being another boring Pinot.

The color is clear red cherry. The nose is clean, med intensity, red cherries, red berries, red currants, nutmeg & cinnamon in the back framing the fruit, toasted oak hitns, with time the wine gets more earthy and spicy, youthful. The wine is dry, med-/med body, med intensity, acidity stands a bit taller, 13,5% alcohol, balanced but the fruit is too much in the back and more dried, alcohol gets in front as well, its a bit bitter too, tastes …

Deep ruby red, no hint of browning yet. Pleasing but not particularly distinctive aroma, maybe at that in-between stage. Nice palate, full in the middle with perhaps a touch too much acidity to finish. Needs a bit longer.

My dad popped a bottle of 2009 Pegasus Bay Pinot Noir for dinner at Seafood International. It was a crowd pleaser - everyone loved it! And it went pretty well with seafood. I was impressed with the wine, and noted that it has improved since the last time I tasted it about 1 year ago. Pegasus Bay remains one of my favorite NZ Pinot Noirs to date, and the winery also produces excellent Riesling. Clear, day bright, pale garnet, slight …

Spice and earth in the nose with some candied fruit, very nice nose but on the old world side but richer. I like the acidity and the balance of fruit space and body in the mouth. It needed an hour to open up. I have had a quite a few New Zealand PN and they have a style of themselves. A negative to this wine is the mid palate, it falls off, then the acid kicks in and finishes really …

Very lovely Pinot Noir, and thirst quenching. Distinct candy and cake on the nose. Remarkably light, fresh, crisp, and easy to drink. Lots of red berries, cranberries, and cherries. Temperature was key, and this should be drank at around 16 degrees Celsius for optimal taste (I rated this wine slightly higher than the last time I drank it probably because it was more chilled this time and therefore tasted better). Did not really aerate this wine, but served it using …

Wonderfully light and crisp, perfect for a hot afternoon. There was a very distinct nose to this wine which reminded me of a dessert cake or perhaps confectionery. Like candy. Also, a sweet raspberry scent. On the palate, sweet red fruits, a hint of oak and vanilla, and cherries. I thought this was awesome! Decanted this for about 1 hour before consumption.

From 75cl screwcap. A bit closed aromatically, but there's no mistaking this as a NZ PN; very sweet, almost sugary in-your-face red fruit entry and a monolithic, squeaky (i.e. not mineral, not layered, not structured, not tannic, not glycerine-like) mid-palate texture. 14,5% alc quite well integrated (glug, glug...); lacks acid balance for my taste. Sweet confectionery-like finish. Perhaps this will improve with 2-3 years in the cellar - if the sweetness recedes and the texture becomes more appealing, this might …

Forward nose of red fruit, spices and black pepper. Palate is ripe, full bodied and very smooth, but slightly astringent and alcoholic. Balanced and concentrated with a long finish. Well made.

Vibrant ruby red. Wonderful aromas of rose, rasberry and berry compote. Silky on the palate, with red berries, plums, earth and chocolate. Quite dense and intense and oh so tasty. Missing that gamey goodness that pinot sometimes get, but it hardly matters. Oak beautifully melded in. I really enjoyed this and kept wanting more. It went with my Jamon Iberico beautifully.

Ultimately it is a bit too soon to approach this yet. First 50 minutes was very closed. Opened considerably on the nose over next half hour, but still not integrated on the palate. Driven by spicy oak - allspice, clove - with smoked red plum and cherry. Nice texture, full and plump with medium grainy tannins. A bit of stemminess on finish.

This started out nicely. A little more fruit forward than I was looking for. The color appeared more petit sarah like. It was a deep purple. The nose was quite enticing. After four hours the fruit seemed to fade. I would like to try this again, but I'm not going to load up the cart with it.

Wine Education Service - Chase the Grape - Pinot Noir (LSE) : A savoury nose with some fruit, very youthful, and doesn't smell like pinot noir. Fruity (black cherries), smooth, very rich, reasonable balance.

Opened and decanted while consuming. What the 2004 offered in brawny the 2005 delivers in elegance. Again the depth and complexity of the Pegasus Bay Pinots took me by surprise. I'm hoping more of this wine appears on the shelves of The Wine Mine as the $32 price point delivers a ton of Pinot value.
