I can confirm all the good things people said in the notes below. This wine is still really good in 2024.

This bottle was pretty far gone. Brown, flat and unpleasant. 1 left. Fingers crossed.

Popped and poured- consumed over 2 hrs. NOT a Tardive wine Rich golden yellow color; aroma of dried apricots with subtle cinnamon, allspice notes; rich full bodied mouth feel, ripe dried( but not dried out) apricots and mango and of ripe pears poached in Riesling with a honey glaze. But after all that "sweetness" the finish is very long but not cloying- the final notes are more spicy than fruity- in fact the acidity leaves a sense of refreshing tartness. …

Perfect pairing with Thanksgiving side dishes. Candied fruit, cooked apricots.

Simply a great wine and unfortunately my last bottle – all with consistent notes and almost similar to the notes I took in 2002 and 2004: Rich, golden color. Great viscosity, thick und voluptuous. Dried apricots, honey, orange peel and smoke – beautiful botrytis but also a seemingly never ending freshness that puts it way ahead of 95% of all Sauternes wines. A challenge for almost any dish – great with blue cheese but I prefer it as a „Vino …

Golden and heavy, but with great acidity. Nothing but great experiences with Zind.

Deep gold color. Marmelade and petrol on the nose. Very intensely flavored and concentrated. Fat and dense, with strong fruit. The wine was overall quite good but lacked complexity to push the score higher.

Outstanding depth and breadth of flavors. Thick and chewy. Slightly honeyied with strong undertones of cashews, walnuts, slightly floral as well. This may be the wine to get me out of my wine funk. I haven't had anything stir my emotions in over 3 months.

I agree with an earlier note that saw the similarity to gewurtraminer. Spicy in both the nose and the palate. No lychee, but otherwise a dead ringer for a gewurz nose. The palate had good minerality and nice earthiness. A touch of white flower. I liked it. I think it's time to drink up.

The cork on this bottle was very odd as it came out. The wine had the VV-typical florality and spiciness but seemed very toned down and off. Not rated.

Last bottle, and definitely time to drink. A gorgeous nose, but starting to fade. Drank over two days...definitely better day one. Dark amber color. A bit hot, almost like a strong Belgian ale.

Medium golden in color and viscous. Smoke, minerals, nuts and white fruits. This wine still has great texture of its youth, but becoming much more, with minerality and savory notes peering out around the corners. This became even more complex and beguiling with a day of air time. This will probably sound odd, but although the fruit flavors were different, the texture and mineral notes reminded me of aged Marsanne. Add some smokiness and there it was. I think this …

Color was pure gold with an absolutely beatiful nose of apricots and floral notes. Tastes of peach and apricot with a long finish that never stops evolving. Really great with the orange sesame pork chops. I love this wine.

Dark yellow in color, this wine was clearly developed. Had the VV-typical power as well as the slight roughness on the palate that sometimes develops in older Pinot Gris. While many of the '89s from ZH are still holding well with many years of pleasurable drinking ahead of them, this is probably one to drink over the short term. 50+12+11+8+8 = 89

Wonderful wine at peak. This doesn't seem to be in danger of falling apart, but I don't see any reason to wait. It has teriffic depth on the nose and palate. I love the oily texture. The only thing that it might lack is a touch of acid.

Medium gold in color and medium bodied, this wine was nicely perfumed on the nose. On the palate it had the aged roughness some of these wines get and the finish was very heady with a warming sensation. Based on this bottle the wine is descending but we'll see what the next bottle holds in store for us. 50+12+11+7+7 = 87

I think this might have been better a year or two ago. Very smoky, with little primary fruit left. Still sweet, but not overbearing/cloying. This might be good with a smoked preparation to take advantage of the smoky nose and palate.

Dinner at Duck & Dumpling. Medium gold in color, this smelled and tasted more like Gewurz than Pinot Gris. Lovely rosewater, spice and flowers in this medium bodied wine. A nice inner mouth perfume that seems to have developed on several of the '89 ZH wines. Medium length finish. Very good, but not outstanding. Should continue to drink well for about 5 more years. 50+11+12+7+7 = 87.
