A Tasting of Chambolle-Musigny Village Wines from the 2005 Vintage (San Francisco) : Light red. Strong char at first, then increasingly fragrant over time. Delicious, relatively open earthy red fruit followed by slightly grainy tannin. Delicate, long, very Chambolle.

Not much to add to my previous tasting notes. Immediately attractive straight from the cellar and from the bottle. Classic Chambolle, lifted aromas of red berries on the nose, with a light touch of oak spice; characteristic minerality on the palate, elegant weight, fresh and lively, percaline tannins; good to very good persistence. Still its plateau of maturity. Drink or hold (but not too long). A lovely wine.

Clear ruby core. Nice black cherry aromas in addition to a prominent smell of new oak. Fuller, weightier, and less detailed than my preference is for Chambolle. The wood is really astringent and green to start but does ease up with air. Modern, facile, and not terribly interesting, but the fruit will last a good long while for what that’s worth.

A private lunch with family and friends (at home) : Still going strong, a fragrant and feminine Chambolle with particularly well-managed tannins, which underlines that sensitive, modern winemaking does not have to limit the lifespan of a wine.

Light red with light brownish rim. Open nose of garden berries, some vanilla and secondary aromas of wet leaves. Ripe fruit, savoury, elegant. Good lenght. Nice, ripe Pinot from a great vintage.

This continues to delight - quintessential Chambolle in a modern wrapper. Fragrant and floral nose, red cherries and rosehip, hint of sous bois, spicy oak, cool minerality; silky and flowing, dances across the palate, lively and vibrant, with just the right level of 2005 tannic grip, juicy and elegant, linear and precise, lovely sève; ethereal and complete finish, good length. Excellent Chambolle village - a higher score would require more gravitas and/or more complexity.

Identical to my previous note. Lots of charm and finesse, a modern and silky style of Chambolle, with ripe blue fruit and a happy dose of new oak. Does not suffer from the tough tannins that mar quite a few 2005's at present - the apparent decision to destem completely and to restrain polyphenolic extraction, seems to have been a wise one. Very attractive. Drink now - 2020.

Lovely example of Chambolle finesse, approaching its prime. The nose is lovely; filled with raspberry, cherry, and cranberry, alongside lovely savory mineral notes, and hints of iron. The palate is very nicely balanced, rich with fruit and yet maintains a very classic style of Chambolle elegance. Has developed some nice secondary notes and its definitely approaching its peak years. Will probably drink very well over the next 2-4 years.

Flowers and cherries, raspberries, silk and cream, herbs and black tea. Harmonious, elegant, pure, true-to-type, charming, dancing even, flows effortlessly across the palate, light but with just the right amount of intensity and stuffing, fresh minerality, very good length. Lacks the complexity and power for a higher score, but what a perfectly delicious and stylish drink. At peak, drink now - 2020.

Pure expression of Pinot fruit with predominate red fruit characteristics, plenty of fruit yet clean on the palate and mouthwatering acidity. Floral notes become apparent after a few hours. Very nice and a really strong value here.

Moderately deep, dark purple hue. Opened with a strong whiff of oak, which receded somewhat to reveal dark cherries and a spicy blueberry pie note which I have also found in some of the '05 Beaujolais. Very pure fruit, plush, not heavy but significant weight, and the tannins were round and very forgiving. Open, fairly easy wine. While it revealed brief glimpses of tangy Chambolle acidity, a sappy dark fruit core, and some aromatic dimension, in the end, it still …
