I thought this was a delicious, weighty, dry Riesling. Petrol aromas. Quince and Williams Pears on the palate lead into a steely minerality with a very long citrus finish.

Amazing golden color, looks like a dessert wine. A typical petrol nose, like only Riesling can produce. Med- acidity, med body, med alcohol, med flavor intensity and med finish. Nice minerality, dry, petrol notes continue, a bit of pineapple and orange. Excellent price quality. Snapped it up during my visit at chateau st cosme in gigondas.

Gold in colour and yet dry taste. Some floral notes on the nose but on the palate it does have some crunchy green apple flavours but with some honey taste. Quite rich in flavour. There is that petrol flavour but just on the aftertaste. Refreshing acidity. Good length.

Tasting of wines of Oregon, Washington State and Finger Lakes, hosted by Tim Syrad Wines, UK. Our second riesling of the tasting. Medium gold in colour. Lime, honey, and a little petrol on the nose. I found this dry and slightly bitter, also slightly harsh on the finish. But there was good hints of apricot. Some thought this was great, but I didn't and I wouldn't pay the UK price.

Another great showing for this really nice value riesling. Showed slightly heavier and rounder than last time, with some tropical and citrus fruits mixed together.

OK. I tried another one. The last one was flawed. This is much better. Interestingly the first 10 minutes was different to the rest of the time. It started kind of all over the place and felt disconnected. Over time it tightened up and the acidity showed through, bringing together the fruit. Nice drink. Great QPR. However I would drink up. I don't think it is going to last much longer.

Color very deep gold which initially made me think it was maybe oxidized but still tasted fresh. Clearly reisling in character but a bit richer than Alsace / German style. Nice apples, blossom, and a touch of honey. Dry.

Yum. Stone fruit, quince, jasmine, savory, slightly herby. Integrated mineral and textural, almost brothy finish. A great pairing for the table

Gold, surprisingly so, makes me wonder if the bottle was temp abused just a bit. But either way, tons of honey on the nose with fruit. Dry, good acidity, overall quite nice. Ripe but not overly so.

(16,5/20) Blend of Riesling grapes from 16 vineyards in southeast Seneca Lake, each vinified separately. 70% of the wine is vinified and aged in old oak barrels and demi-muids, 30% in steel tanks. Fermentation takes several months. Elegant wine, beautiful acidity, ripe fruit, great length. Medium+ intense aromas of tangerine, lemon zest, pineapple, honeydew melon, white grapefruit, blossom, honeysuckle, beeswax, wet stone. Prior bottle was 8 months ago and this wine continues to show quite well. Pear, apple and lemon continue to make up the nose, but as previously noted, in a more balanced fashion than some of my earlier bottles. Not decanted but allowed to warm from fridge temperature. Richer nose than I remember from last year. Lemon curd, shale, jasmine, the same persimmon and melon. Classic. The palate is a little more angular and savory. Medium plus acid, surprisingly strong body for a riesling. More melon-y and floral than the palate. Long finish with jasmine and shale. Richer with more quince and red apple on day two.

Fourth bottle of six. No rating. The first three were excellent. This one seemed uncharacteristically tired, flabby, and oxidized. Premox?

Very pleasant drinking but a little on sweet vs. dry side. Seemed to have lots of oak. An upstate NY wine that ranked 31 overall in the WS 2020 Top 100.

Memorable. Not totally typical riesling, but that’s fine in this case. Golden and rich, with a faintest hint of oxidation (?) that adds value and sets this wine apart in a good way. It benefits from air, and it’s worth experimenting with temperature. Very versatile with food.

Med gold with a copper hue. Surprising. Med (+) aromas of overripe pear, yellow apple, lemon, lime, honey, lots of petrol, white flowers, wet stone. Dry, with only 3g/L RS. Tart green apple, lemon peel, wet stones and chalk. A little sour on the palate. Maybe a bad bottle? Was expecting something better.

Pours yellow in the glass with a few small bubbles. The nose is lemon meringue with a bit of vasiline. On the palate, a heftier mouthfeel than expected. Velvety but the medium + acidity is there. Light citrus on the taste with some minerality. The residual sugar is present but not sweet in any way. Overall, a solid reisling.

(When prompted) I can appreciate notes of chamomile on the nose. On the palate , when prompted, I can sense some tropical notes here but it’s all quickly overwhelmed by a tidal wave of acidity. Though it may be my style, for balance sake I think this wine would really benefit from ~10gr/L of residual sugar. Happy to get a chance to try this while dining out in Ithaca. Med (-) gold. Med (+) aromas of pear, yellow apple, white peach, lemon, white blossom, honey, with a touch of petrol and wet stone. Dry, with only 3g/L RS. Med to med (+) acidity, med alcohol (13%). The last of my little stock. I will likely reload at some near point. Visually, it satisfies with an unexpected golden glow, vaguely reminiscent of something other than a typical Riesling; but on the palate it confirms its origins.

This is a light, easy to drink wine with a fairly low residual sugar. It has some citrus predominance but overall seems nicely balanced.

2017 vintage

Deeper gold than usual with Forge. Vibrant nose of chalky lemon curd and citrus blossom honey. Ripping acidity mellows with time in glass and gives way to a long finish of honey and citrus, but not at all sweet. Nice.

a rather big riesling with mouth coating viscosity..lots of subdues lemon oil and a hint of liquorice..went well with crab cakes

Opened one hour in advance. Fresh lemon/apricot aroma. Rich flavors of stone fruit, minerals. Apricot pit in the finish. Firm backbone, pleasant, solid, not complex. Unusually heavy mouth feel for a dry riesling. Excellent QPR.

Trotting through my little stash and thinking I will replace in the future. All told an authentic riesling at a decent price.

It's vital with our menu designs to keep a lot of white wine in the house as red wines hardly ever are suitable. The Forge is humming along, though Dulcie was inclined to dismiss it as apple juice. A tad harsh, though I grant there is some element of tart green apples - but there is more than that and I can appreciate the bracing acidity.

As this comes from a NY region, I wanted to like this more than actually did. There seemed to be very little if no fruit present. Usually I can tell if it's pear or apple or perhaps apricot, but this one I couldn't tell what was there. I got the traditional riesling acid flavor but little more. Won't give up trying Finger Lake rieslings because of this one, as I've had others that surprised me.

Strong nose - you can smell the alcohol - but also yeast, lemon and a fullness. Big mouthfeel, but a lightness in the fruit of pear and grapefruit. Not a whole lot of complexity - but I'm a fan of the FLX style of Riesling. Long finish. Good, strong acidity. This should get better with time but is good now and has a few years left. Great QPR.

Prior bottle was almost ten months ago and this wine continues to show well. Pear, apple and lemon notes on the nose, but much more balanced (not the intense citrus qualities) than previously. I was surprised by the deepness of the color - a golden yellow. On the nose, you can smell alcohol and ripe peaches. The taste, is dry, refreshing with flavors of peach and pear.

On the nose, some chalk, some white flowers, a bit of persimmon as well. On the palate it's bone dry. The acid isn't as belligerent as some FLX rieslings, but I would still call this a well structured, light bodied riesling. Chalk and slate on the tongue, with stone fruits coming through on the finish. Excellent example.

Prior bottle was only five months ago, so my notes were consistent. Intense citrus on the nose (especially lemon) to go along with pear and chalky acidity. Medium bodied with a flavor profile that showed soft apple, brighter pear and green melon. Again picked up that white peach note towards the back and then very neatly balanced with tart lemon and lime. Mineral qualities and lingering acidity through the finish. This was a really nice bottle of dry Riesling that I picked up for $10 on sale. Whole cluster pressed and aged in 57% used French oak. 3g of RS. Some slight smokiness with peach and mineral notes. 90 points.
