Pillar Rock, Cabernet Sauvignon, Stags Leap District

Stag's Leap District grapes are typically top quality and this vintage doesn't disappoint; tight cork, garnet red, and no bricking. The nose is red and blue fruit. This definitely needs a one hour decant, the first sip was high acidity. After an hour it blows off and is a delightful, medium acidity tart cherries, currants and blackberry. Showing fabulously! Floral nose with black fruits and dark, wet earth. Palate was silky, with a touch of oxidation, but mostly dominated by mature black fruits and earthy vanilla. Beautiful balanced - a lot of ‘07’s straddle the line of maturity with some showing fruit and some showing tertiary flavors. This one played both, with a deep, slightly brambly berry attack and seamlessly faded to the darker earthy and tobacco flavors. This is in a great place now, showed better …

This is still drinking well, not as good as the 2012, but better than the 2001. It still has fruit, tannins and acid and dark color. No bricking or mustiness. Nicely aged, but probably just past the peak of drinkability.

Rich, sweet, smooth...drinking beautifully...with rib eye on grill and cut right thru the richness of the beef. Everything in good balance, no signs of getting too old, should have many years left.

Ditto previous, a big rich and well balanced cab that is drinking well right now.
