Euroa Creeks Shiraz

Another one of those "I'm not expecting much" wines that left me pleasantly surprised. Fresh purple looking, dusty aromas, a little flat until after an hour or so in the glass, then assertively rounded out with fruit and noticeable but not obstrusive tannin. Very enjoyable with roast chicken.

PNP. The nose was impressive: balanced meaty black fruit, markedly floral, with spices and hints of sweat and iron. There was good viscosity on the palate, with some bite to the tannins and a medium finish. A solid wine. This wine was purchased on release and stored under temperature control. Drinking well now.

A bit acidic with dark fruit character and at first tannic. Oak is gone and so was all drinkability with the remainder wine the second day. Well past prime - Drink now.

Got a lot of oak on the nose when we first opened this and poured it into decanter. However, by the time we had our first glasses an hour later, that pronounced oakiness had disappeared. This tasting note - a couple of days after being opened. Pretty dark in colour, not showing any age. Nose is still fruit forward, get cherry and berry but none of the strawberry Pinot notes from before, more meaty almost earthy Bordeaux type smell, but still high toned cherry and blackberry fruit. At first I thought these bottles had turned - the cork was showing signs of going south and the wine had an edge to it that wasn't great. But we gassed it, and set it aside till the next day. Lots of jammy fruit on the nose when opened. Let decant for an hour. Taste was not as fuity and jammy as expected. fruit was more faint and I got more of an empty palate feeling. OPened p a little more after the second hour. Good, simple aussie shiraz.

This is a nice example of a fruit-forward Shiraz with some refinement. Very nice blueberry and blackberry fruit with a touch of vanilla and spice on the finish. The fruit is the focal point, but not in a heavy-handed way.

Nice classic big Oz Shiraz...rich palate with typical blue fruits...thought this was better balanced than most, while fruit was a rush, the overall mouthfeel was smooth and finish round and delicious. Good QPR @ $20.

Interesting. The aromatics are more like a Pinot than a shiraz. Strawberry, blackberry with hints of licourice and farmyard. Medium bodied with delicious flavours of cherry and blackberry, long juicy finish, well balanced. Probably would be better in 2 years.
