Deep yellow. Early secondary aromas, strong stone fruit, and candied ginger. Medium weight, certainly not a monster. Perhaps the barest hint of RS, but essentially dry, mouth watering acidity, beautifully fresh peach, and a mineral drenched finish. Fantastic, elegant Riesling that still has legs.

Peach, petrol, and tart stone fruit on the nose. Great acidity on the palate with more peach, a hint of lemon, and a somewhat oily texture. Quite complex and long on the finish. Just an excellent Riesling, drinking perfectly right now.

Perfectly mature and complex nose of tropical fruit, petrol, pineapple, and oranges. Good acidity with meyer lemon and passion fruit flavors on the palate. Long finish. An outstanding Austrian Riesling and fantastic QPR!

This is such a gorgeous dry Riesling... High-pitched citrus notes on top of a concentrated, unctuous, superripe palate and dito bouquet of lemon oil, apricot, smoke, tropical flowers, licorice-powder ('salmiak'), bloodorange bitterness and all kinds of musky, savory goodness. Really great!

Rieslingfeier 2017; 2/17/2017-2/18/2017 (NYC) : apple, wet stone, rose, baked apple, some tropical (mango? pineapple?) notes, and a little doughiness. not showing very much age as of yet, this has a long road yet ahead. medium finish shows baked apple flavors. very nice.

Rieslingfeier 207 Seminar:"Different Strokes for Different Slopes: Germany and Austria" (Craft Restaurant (Private Dining Room), New York, NY) : Ripe with honey peach and herbs. Odd on the palate - flavor muted some but quite ripe in feel - soft, very honeyed. more mature - herbs peach and honey on finish. Nose - 5/6, Palate - 4.5/6, Finish - 4.5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1.5/2 = 15/20.

Restrained aromas of wet stone and lime. Elusive flavors of pineapple and lime with mineral notes and a hint of vanilla.

Preparing for our next Dreamtasting @ Thijs' (Netherlands) : Spicy, white pepper, very opulent. Definately broader, more expansive than German GG's. Near oily mouthfeel. Great wine. (+)

Tasting with good frends. (@ MatH) : Beautiful bouquet with white fruits, tart grapefruit and lime. On the palate a beautiful play between sweetness and acidity. Yellow tropical fruits. Complex and a good length. Great wine.

Steinertal Vertical (Seasonal) : Really fresh and icy, not showing the stony minerality that some of the other vintages did, but very focused and acute. More of that pixelated sensation as it sits in the glass. This pairing probably showed a more dramatic style contrast with the Pichler than the others: this wine was leaner, maybe more lithe, and higher-pitched.

Steinertals at Seasonal (Seasonal, NYC) : Comes across rather closed and reticent, offering little aromatically but it's much more expressive in the mouth with pure, pale complexioned fruit that seems to be sculpted from stone and ice. Becomes more accessible with air, but seems more about promise right now.

Another vintage, another incredible Steinertal. This is just as extra-vinous as the '06 was but more lean and lithe. This tastes like it was vinified from metallic rock with the fruit merely giving it some spring-like freshness. It's more focused on that zone than the '06 was, which seemed packed with everything, and also much lighter in complexion and weight. This is the ninja.
