Drank with Epoisses before Sicilian wine dinner with lamb, etc. As beery and tangy as I remembered, if not as pickly/pop-rocksy. I.e., this struck me tonight as simpler and easier and brighter than earlier versions.

Cannot get into this. Very pale, like a rose. Nicely fragrant on the nose, lots of strawberries, along with pine and mineral. Palate is very acidic, sour, thin and metallic with some minerals. Not a pleasant beverage to consume. Not rated.

Served chilled at fridge temp; warmed slightly in glass over 45-60 mins. This started out with an even healthier dose of the Cornellissen Nasty than usual, and -- slow learner that I am -- I actually worried about it for ten minutes or so. This is the first Cornelissen wine I've had that had zero sediment/particulates in it. Interesting. The color and aroma are certainly typical of this wine, which is my favorite of his in this price range. This wine is the sour beer of wines. Good, but not too edgy. Showed a funky, earthy side with some dried herbs and smoke; tart / tangy, but not puckering; more fruit than I was expecting - strawberry and melons. Overall, quite nice, refreshing, and interesting.

Dino's Grotto (Dino's Grotto - Washington, DC) : Ah, Susucaru, such a unique wine. Of course, this wine has some effervescence. Looks and smells like a sour ale with strawberry, smoke, soil, white pepper, tobacco and saline elements on the nose and palate. Brisk, tangy, the dried pineapple, red apple and sour cherry fruit is laced with smoky, earthy, sea salt and seaweed notes. My favorite wine of the night. Unique, funky but also straight up fun and very food-friendly.

Dinner with Frank Cornelissen (Sofia's of Little Italy, New York, NY) : From 1.5L. A pretty pink/light raspberry color with a nose of fresh mountain herbs and strawberries. This was a wild and fun wine. Cloudy pink color due the lack of filtration with a great bouquet that keeps you smelling to see what is happening. Lots of melon (cantaloupe, watermelon), lots of floral scents, and some interesting almost funk like smell that is quite intriguing. Funk and fruit balance on the nose. Mildly effervescent upon decanting off very heavy sediment. Cherry , strawberry , watermelon , and raspberry combined with charcoal ,mild herba, and barely there soapy floral notes. Medium texture and moderate tannins blending well with flavors similar to aroma. Finish is bone dry with firm minerality and a hint of bitterness. Really digging this.
