Thierry Violot-Guillemard Pommard 1er Cru Les Rugiens

Opened my last bottle tonight. Decanted for an hour and served with grilled lamb and pork chops. Superb. Exquisite color viewed with the sunset as a backdrop. A wonderful expression of terroir and wine-making brilliance. A fine remembrance of our trip to the winery 9 years ago.

Drinking well at this point and should last awhile longer. Superb mouth feel with a long finish. Paired with a filet mignon—magnificent.

The first wine I have tried from Rugiens and I am intrigued with its personality and eager to try more from the climat to see if this arises from the geological terroir. Appearance: Pale core. Mahogany edge. Good legs. Nose: Open at opening. Nutmeg. Hession bag. Minerals. Spice including cloves and cinnamon. Roses. Caramel. Palate: Elegant balanced soft mouthfeel. Moderate to high tannins. PNP De Kas Amsterdam Good red fruit with tannic oak. The wine mellowed with an hour open and / or in the glass and became more enjoyable This wine needs 10 years

A rather sappy yet elegant Pommard with black cherry, baking spice and rhubarb on the nose. Youthful and structured, chewy yet lithe, and lacking the firm tannins of many wines from this appellation. Clearly this will benefit from 5-10 more years of bottle age, but it is still enjoyable in its youth. I have heard great things about this under-the-radar producer, and now I believe the (lack of) hype. Lots of upside here.
