Notes of cedar and dried herbs. Fruit of dark cherry is very muted, and seems to have faded from the bottle I had about a year ago. Overall, pleasant and a good deal given the price.

Enjoyable but missing the "wow"-factor which I had hoped for. In Riedel Sangiovese rather light but came together much better in a Zwiesel Conterno Symphony glass: balsamic with more mid weight.

10 year aniversary with the GMINK crossfit team : From Double-Magnum. This was really nice with great balance of power, complexity and elegance. Notes of cherry, dark berries, tobacco and spice with soft tannins and good acidity.

Ripe black cherry, plum, tobacco, subtle leather, and spice on the nose; on the palate it is full-bodied with concentrated fruits, fine-grained tannins, and a lively acidity keeping it fresh. Long, savory finish. I had it with Parmigiana di melanzane and I liked it a lot.

black in the glass with a clear meniscus. On nose, rose petals, pipe tobacco, sweet/sour cherry. Palate similar with full body, medium+ acidity, medium+ tannins and very long finish. Loved this. Better than bottle earlier in year. 94+/-

Decanted 2 hrs. Very little sediment….wonderful, probably at its best ,though still likely to have a good 10 years at this level.

Quite nice, probably as good as it gets. Mellow out of the bottle, dark cherries with a tiny hint of plum. Mid-complex but much pleasant. Alcohol is present at 14 per cent. Will look to consume my final bottle of the ‘13, but will break into the 2016 before.

Bought a bottle at a restaurant and took half of it home. Note written next day after being corked in the fridge overnight. Cherries, stewed prunes rather than plums, earth, some oak, and some stemmy herbaceousness. Good acidity, but the fruit just wasn't showing. Perhaps an off bottle; nice color, no browning. I've had newer vintages at tastings, and liked them more.

My final bottle of this vintage, and I was disappointed in both bottles. This was part of a Sangiove and Barolo night with my wine group. While others liked it, I thought it might have been slightly oxidized. It really didn't taste like Sangiovese, as it was a little flat and clunky.

It is always fascinating to see how Sangiovese ages. When done in a high quality wine like this, I always get impressed. This provides a youthful color, at least at the core. The rim is concentrated, although somewhat brownish. Expressive nose of dark cherries, some tobacco and dark chocolate, and an interesting balsamic tone almost like camphor. This evolves nicely. Fine ruby color with a slightly amber rim. Cherry notes at first, evolving into cherry liquor after some time in the glass. Lovely dark fruit - better with an hour of air, as it let the fruit unfurl and get more accessible. Really very tasty - the lifespan of this cuvée is remarkable. Wish I had another bottle or three to try in a decade.

A mixture of ripe red and black fruits, the black fruits give it more depth. It's a warm vintage but still enough acidity to keep it attractive. Quite a modern impression with possibly not the longest drinking window.

Excellent classic IGT ... fresh red cherries, old leather, dry soil, rose, nicely developed fruit, still lively yet developing some nice secondary characteristics. 2013s are ready to start drinking now and for at least a few more years.

PnP. Medium dark red. Nose of Sangiovese dust and balsamic as well as red fruits. On the palate this is quite lively with red fruit and acid driven. Tannins are definitely present and this improved with air. Needs another 5 years in the cellar.

Pop and pour. Grassl Cru stem. Garnet-ruby color. Nose offers dark cherries, some oak and cedar, mushroom and hint of wet earth. Dark fruit profile with good spicy acidity. Slight herbal accent. Savory. Tart finish.

Decanted and enjoyed with a pepperoni pizza. Very good, but still a bit on the early side. Chewy, unresolved tannin and grainy oak distract. The ingredients are there, but more time will benefit this wine longer term. Drink now with decanting and food or hold for another 1-2 years. Drink through 2032+.

My first Fontalloro. Decanted for 30+ but needed a lot more. However, show must go on when serving with dinner. Still evolving, tannins still quite powerful. Deep rich dark fruit core asserts itself in the glass. Needs more time or a longer decant.

In the middle between a Chianti and a Brunello. More complex than a Chianti but not as round as a Brunello, still a great wine. On the nose it has sour cherry, liquorice, plumb and currant. Some smoke, chocolate and eucalyptus. It has a good finish and acidity.

Deep amber color with an almost black core. Blueberry on the nose at first, then it evolves into something more mature with tones of warm earth, tobacco and cedar. Full bodied attack, lots of sweet blueberries on the mid palate. Classic Sangiovese dryness kicks in on the finish, and the aftertaste mixes blueberry and a dry cedar tone. My bottle was affected by rampant cork taint - TCA. The good thing is that it was so much like sticking your head in a mildew ridden cupboard that I felt none of that ridiculous temptation, to which I often succumb, of drinking a lot of unsatisfying wine in the hope it will somehow improve or because I feel I can manage to look past the taint to the wine below.
