Dark red center, red rim with some signs of age. Sweet plums and black raspberries, polished, piñon and rosemary. Smooth, mature darker fruit, cherry liquor, dried herbs, balanced acidity and tannins, alcohol is refreshingly low (13%), integrated oak, great fruit finish. Excellent Ridge Cab. As others have noted, for the vintage this is a great success. Drinking well now, but I'm sure it will be good in another 3-5 years.

Ridge Cabernet Sauvignon Estate 2011: This wasn't a particularly good year in California. In this respect, the quality of this Cabernet Sauvignon is exceptionally good, and the price-performance ratio is excellent. A hint of red berry on the nose, the tannins are nicely rounded and in the background on the palate, but there's still some black currant, some tobacco, and coffee, and a medium-length finish. Lovely aromatic Cabernet nose, black fruit, leather, pencil lead. Really floral. Beautiful fresh balanced palate. A floral (rose?) element. Really fresh and moreish. This is delicious, so fine and aromatic.

Wine of Christmas - full rich and structured wine with bags of fruit and complexity. Seems to be drinking very well right now but not falling away so no rush for the last two.

While it is understood that 2011 wasn't a great vintage for California Cab, you wouldn't know that from this vintage of Ridge. This is a beautiful, silky cabernet with fully resolved tannins, lovely dark red fruit, forest floor, spices, and a medium to long finish. It has years ahead of it.

Still deep garnet color. Initially the glass was filled with the lovely Draper perfume (Ridge's deft hand with American oak). It subsided, or I got used to it, so it didn't overpower the other elements of the wine. On the palate it was deep, dank, dark fruit - blackberry, black currant - and anise. Medium bodied, with tannins that had melted into the background and a nice core of acidity. Miles away from the typical lush and smooth California cabernet. …

At pnp, pretty (and) gorgeous aromas. Blackberry, coconut cream, forest spice. Definite charm. Palate is more svelte and elegant. Tannin is light. Acid is med. wanting for more mid-palate, and let’s just let this open up for a min or two or ten in the glass. Color is garnet, no browning at the rim. Day 3 out of the fridge. Surprisingly fresh still. Maybe less discript, still charming all in all. Aromas at the last glass pickup steam again. Blackberry, …

Still a good wine. 2011 was not a great vintage but this wine has aged well. Never under temperature control either just in dark basement all these years Still a good wine.

Drinking very nicely. Not as powerful as some other vintages, but quite enjoyable.

Opened 1 hour ahead. Dark fruits, tobacco and a bit of wood and eucalyptus on the nose. Medium bodied with softer tannins but still good acid. You can still taste some American oak along with brambly dark fruits, earth and spicebox. Clearly in its drinking window. Solid 91 points

Finally, best showing of the 3 btls. Freshness, graphite cedary goodness, cherries and bright plums. Don't think this will go long haul.

Drunk over two nights with about a month in between (Coravin). Not convinced the wine was the same after that time as it lacked a little freshness second time around. Altogether though a very nice smooth drop of red - good depth of fruit. Probably in its drinking window right now.

Agree w other reviewers that this is ready to drink now. While showing some mature notes there is also fruit present. A little less oomph than some of the other Ridge cabs I’ve had but still enjoyable

Upon opening lovely minty note! This is still very dark - not showing much brown on the rim at all. Nose shows more maturity, with a little earth and some woody notes along with the mint. Fruit is muted but there - more dark fruits than red. Medium to full bodied, ripe with soft to medium tannins, a little drying on the finish with some nice acidity. Black currant and dark cherry fruit, nice medium long finish. This was delicious …

I’m a fan of Ridge cabs with some age, so enjoyed this one. A bit subdued on day 1 and opened up more on day 2

Halbflasche - und sehr schön jetzt! Sehr dunkelbeerige Nase, schwarze Johannisbeere, Zedern, Lakritze, etwas Stall/Heu. Am Gaumen tolle Balance, mittlerer Körperbau, feingliedrige Tannine, im Finale leichte Süsse. Jetzt in grossartiger Reife und perfekt zu Lamm.

Blind tasting of flagship and second wines from California and Washington. Biggest takeaway is how well the second wines stood up to their bigger siblings. This was #7 out of 8, but very narrowly so. Beautiful nose of herbs and fruit. Thick, almost viscous mouthfeel. Flavors of fruit and some vegetal/bell pepper. Medium-long finish. Very similar to big brother Monte Bello (which was my #1), with the main differences being a slightly simpler and sharper flavor profile, slightly rougher tannins …

First of all, I love the beautiful garnet color. Most importantly, it's a beautiful, silky cabernet with just the right amount of acidity and spice. I get lots of black cherry, blackberry, earthy spice and leather on the palette. It's full bodied without heaviness. If I had another bottle, I'd keep it for even longer!

4th of July weekend, so time for homemade burgers and American Cabernet. Cab and cow! Tasted over two nights, this is still youthful, though it is integrating it’s rather heavy handed oak treatment. Spicy, with a dash of coconut, the fruit became stronger the longer it was open. By night two the fruit became the star performer, bright and elegant, supported by the oak and structure. Seems like a good sign for further aging. Good thing, as I have three …
