Cloudy Bay, Pelorus, Marlborough

Sparkling tasting.

Good flavour

Developing body. Dry and biscuity. Acidity relatively flat. Seems to have some way to go and judging by others' notes it's getting better than it has been in recent years.

Having been thin and acidic for the last 4 years, this is starting to develop into something interesting. Sadly this is the last bottle, but anyone who has anymore of these, just hold for another 3-4 years and you may have something rather nice.

Cloudy Bay lost their way with Pelorus in the late 90s. Now we have this rather thin style as an attempt at finesse. It has certainly not paid off, with this wine becoming ever more thin and acidic. There are a few secondary characteristics coming to the rescue, but overall only scrapes 'good'.

Match flint and lemon nose, bubbles not long lasting, drying effect, very lightly straw coloured. Enjoyable sparkling.

Bang on! Had with a collection of cheeses and pate. Toasty notes and still good acid. Still fresh and drinkable.

Newcastle Wine Club - May 06 (Mark and Sarah's House) : Elegant, something different. In the class of your standard $20-$30 Aussie sparklings. Some colder climate characters with good bubbles and length. Definitely worth another look - reminds me abit of a lighter style Croser.

Lots of fizz - overflowed and once poured left a 2 inch layer of foam in the bottle. Was consequently big, creamy and mouthfilling although the fizz died out quite quickly. Rich and yeasty. Pear on the finish. Drank this before during and after meal and was definitely best-suited as an aperitif.
