Magnum. Decanted for around 30 minutes and then consumed with gusto. A delightful sweet-fruited and savoury wine, its tannins beautifully melted and its flavour profile somewhere between cassis, celery and tomato stalk - just lovely, and very easy to finish it all.

Its graphite precision and pretty red currant and lifted strawberry aromas almost won WOTN with many other amazing bottles, but it became a tough battle between a 1985 Lenoir Chinon Les Roches and this. An 85 Raffault Picasses felt slightly off: unbalanced and slightly musty / celery salt corked at times. Always harder with a Chinon though to decisively declare a flaw.

12.5% Red with slight bricking. Very appealing nose of dried flowers, strawberries, and rhubarb. Light-medium bodied, tart, and noticeable acidity, but all nicely integrated. This was singing after an hour.

burnt orange in color. decay, sun soaked brown paper bags, dried fruit, on the nose. decay, brett, soil, pepper, oak, aged-paper, on the palate. huge acid, medium tannins, on the finish.

I've had better aged Joguet Chinon's, for sure, but this was decent. The palate was still rich...even a bit sappy. The green tobacco, and herbs were there but seemed to be peeking over the shoulder of the mighty cherry. It had nice minerals, subtle earth and that peppery character that the Loire is known so well for. Pretty good stuff overall, but didn't have that second gear/extra level that the Joguet's can have.

Popped and poured. Revisited after well over a year. A lot better than my last bottle. Still fairly dusty and vegetal, but sweeter fruit and less acidity ensure a much better overall balance. Smooth and elegant, with good concentration and length. Loire red wine will probably never be one of my focus areas, but this was still an enjoyable and interesting experience.

Tasted immediately after opening. Light ruby with pink edges. Cherries on the nose, but otherwise a little restrained. Light and elegant on the palate with some indefinable vegetal notes, perhaps cucumber and paprika? Quite a bit of acidity, but still balanced. This wine is obviously well made but not a personal favourite (especially considering what I paid for it). Nice, but all in all a little uneventful.

I thought the Joguet was excellent and classic. There was a mixed reception to this wine. I think people give Delaunay far to hard a time and I think this was a great effort. Leather, game, usual suspects, but not at all over the top - quite elegant. At least at opening, a surprisingly dusty S. Rhone like nose. Well balanced, great wine.
