Yeringberg, Marsanne Roussanne, Yarra Valley

Off key. I suspect this bottle is not the best example of this wine and vintage as it was muted and lacking energy. Flavour profile is what you'd expect white stone fruits, citrus and the body is full of texture but it simply was not on song. Despite this, the bottle did go well with the John Dory. Will try another bottle. Drink now.

Honey and beeswax notes on opening, evolved to ginger and baking spices with time in glass and decanter. Preserved lemon, red apple and spiced pear fruit. Slightly oily, big mouthfeel. Feels like more than its 13% alc. Finishes very dry and a touch bitter, dry sherry-like. Not sure if that's a sign it's a bit oxidised. 10yrs under screwcap should not generally make a wine old but this seems past its best. Not all bad, but disappointing. For Australian Marsanne …

Peta (plus others) big birthday celebration (Peta & Loic's place, Croydon(ish)) : Waxy, lemon, stone fruit - peach, slight honey, honeysuckle, aa little slightly herbaceous note. Juicy, fleshy, slightly waxy, fruit is slightly muted, textured burr. Okay.

Beautifully weighted wine with not a single hint of being overworked or overdone unlike some other Australian wine makers. Quite a creamy wine (not buttery), it has love stone fruit notes, including peach, nectarines and apricots. Body was well structured being accompanied by honeysuckle, beeswax with an earthy undertone. Oak was there but never dominated. An excellent vintage so drink now or 5+ years.

A very well made wine that is now entering its drinking prime. Fresh, peach, apricot, perfumed and with a hint of brioche are all the descriptors that would describe this wine. While I don't have a huge amount of experience with ageing marsanne / roussanne, I can see the wine having the structure to go for another 10 years. Game of Rhones (Carriageworks, Redfern) : Peach, apricot, bees wax and touches of cream…slight pear skin joins on the palate with the fruit, fleshy, long, nice

Rich gold bronze colour. Honeysuckle, lanolin, toasty, a light developed note. Supple, light to medium weight, soft creamy texture, good structure with lovely crisp acidity. Peachy, pear, with a little orange marmalade spice. Excellent resonating length.

Game of Rhones (Carriageworks, Redfern) : aromas of apricot, peach, cream, stone fruits, bees wax and slight honey. On the palate the wine is fresh with stone fruit flavours backed up by cream, slight coconut (?), a mid palate burr marries well with the wax texture. Very good indeed.

Much better this time. Almost viognier-like fruit has good concentration. Good acidity. Obviously needed time.

Yarra Valley pioneers and padawans tasting (Prince Wine Store - Bank Street) : A nose of citrus, predominantly sweet lime and lemon with herbs and a tight but fleshy fruit palette with a racy finish.

Hmmm. Closed nose. Soft, quite savoury palate with a subtle oak spice element.

Very nice. Hints of oak spice and vanilla on the nose but really the fruit predominates. Nice complexity and very interesting to sit and sniff. The palate is nicely integrated with very nice fruit with a hint of oak spices. The oak is very nicely done and not at all distracting from the nice fruit. The acidity is up there for a crisp and lingering finish. This would have aged beautifully and I wish I had more to see how …
