Domaine Fourrier Gevrey-Chambertin Vieille Vigne

BWC 2025 Christmas Do (Petts Wood) : Lovely nose here; raspberry, rosehip, touch of under diluted grenadine cordial. Some subtle baking spices with air and a touch of yoghurt coated cranberry. Palate has lovely acids with some peppered redcurrants. Long and classy.

Typical Fourrier (red fruit, cola, licorice) with nice tertiary notes (sous bois). Such a lovely nose, I could smell this the whole day. Medium+ acidity, medium tannins, long finish. This was best on day 1

Enjoyable at its peak, just starting to lose fruit but what a bouquet. Surprised still have the signature Fourrier fizz. Drink up

Pale garnet in colour. Expressive nose, earthy, rustic, notes of red fruit, undergrowth. Good ripeness of fruit on the palate, pure, vibrant with a hint of minerality. Lingering finish. Drink (or keep). 91-93

Best bottle so far from the case which have been somewhat disappointing (felt marginally cooked with a bit of stewed fruit). I Coravin to taste a week prior and decided not to bring for a dinner, but somehow a week later this showed very nicely. Slightly bricking, tertiary notes showing but still with fruit and freshness still present

Among the best bottles of village Fourrier I’ve tasted. Opened up a little hard with some green notes and oak predominating, but over a few hours it opened up beautifully to classic fourrier red fruit and berries, and the texture felt suppler. Does not have the structure, depth, or aging potential of domaine 1ers, but about as good as village Gevrey gets imo. Very pretty at this stage and probably at or near peak for two to three more years …

Both bottles seemed pretty flat in terms of bouquet and taste. A slight smell of lanolin. One seemed a bit fizzy, and both had very high acid. Did not smell like TCA affected.

2014 Fourrier Gevrey Chambertin VV Another benchmark Gevrey from Fourrier. On the nose, the high toned aromatics. Full of joy. Red fruits, cherry. Bright red fruits on the palate. Strawberry and cherry. Touch of cranberry. Had a crystalline element to it. Not heavy at all, very ethereal. A lovely demonstration of the freshness of the vintage. Fine tannins. Still showing quite young on the palate being very much fruit led. Think there will be years of pleasure ahead for this …

Consistent with my last note. This will age happily for a good while yet but I’m not sure it’s going to get better than this.

(Decanted) Heavenly red translucence, the essence of rose, strawberry and red summer fruits. I've tasted this wine over the last 3 years and the mineral vein seems to be subsiding offering more depth of delicious, complex fruit. Beautifully balanced, smooth and delicious, it is developing into a textbook Burgundy to accompany good food like game birds, roast duck etc. Ready to drink now, I will try to save a few bottles to enjoy 2030+.

Strawberries cherries on the nose over a smoky sweetness. Palate more smoky cherries, med+finish. Not so much delicate as refined and well balanced. Served tonight with spicy chile lentils and was highly complementary, stood up well with its depth and intensity.

The wine that started me on Burgundy. However, this was slightly plummy with dusty tannins relative to my experience with multiple vintages. Will compare to another bottle at a later time

A while since I’ve had one of these. Drop dead gorgeous nose: confit strawberries and something bluer, herbs, minerality. The palate is juicy, but elegant. The finish is fresh, intense, lots of lovely acidity but all in balance. A superb villages, very much of the vintage.

Very light garnet color. Plums, currants and strawberries on the nose with bramble and forest floor. Far richer on the palate than expected. Bursting fresh black and red fruit with spice and earth. Gripping fine tannins and fresh acidity. A cooler vintage deftly handled and drinking beautifully.

Opened and poured. Dull light red. Red berry and a sharp note of fennel which modulated with air to more gentle green herbs. Light weight with just a little glossiness. Brambly, cool vintage character with strawberry and red cherry fruit that is just sufficiently ripe, ripping cranberry acidity, salinity, real stoniness, and minimal tannins. If tasted blind, it could easily be confused with Gamay. This is a really good, delicate, classic wine from this uneven vintage. I think it is …
