(15,5/20) Rich and bold wine, very oaky, great concentration and length, but a bit too much of everything to my liking. There’s no elegance left. Medium intense aromas of ripe blackberry, black amarene cherry, black plum, vanilla, milk chocolate, coconut, caramel, mint, bay leaf. Dry wine, medium acidity, medium+ and supple tannins, full body, pronounced flavour intensity, long finish. 14,6% - Napa Valley tasting @ Best Bottles

Phenomenal, and absolutely to no surprise. I've never had a bottle of this wine from any vintage that wasn't anything less than excellent. The Paul Hobbs house style sits at a midpoint between new world and old, which makes this wine a crowd pleaser in any company. This wine also is in unique company for me, along with Krug Grand Cuvee and the Kosta Browne appellation pinots, in that besides being extremely consistent vintage to vintage, sometimes I've found them …

Peak condition. Rich and round. Not going to get any better I believe but no reason it can’t stay at this level for 5 or more years.

Super deep garnet colour. Plums and cassis on the nose. Good concentration, ripe and fragrant black fruits. Light graphite notes, on the mid-palate which shows a medium length finish. Structured but fine tannins, this has at least 10+ years ahead of it. At ten years, this was my last bottle and one I had kept since my wine adventure started in 2021. Did not even fool WMK for 10 seconds.. He immediately said "New world!" The vintage was more polarising, …

Rich nose of blackberry syrup and bay leaves. Full-bodied, this is unctuously rich with fine grained tannins still intact. Absolutely loaded with sweet blue and blackberry syrup and a hint of scorched earth. A bit one-dimensional, but most will LOVE for the sweet fruit. Drink now. 93

1hr+ decant. Very similar to the ‘14 Pride I had the night before. Not as bright and less fruit as this was more rustic and floral. This has a lot of life left in it. Finish was shorter than expected.

This wine is very enjoyable now, but is most likely not at the best it has been. While opening up it quickly mellowed and became a softer simplified version of what it once was. There is purple fruit on the nose and tongue, more elderberry then blueberry. About 3/4 of the way through there is an earthy note that hints at where the wine is going. Drink this now if you still have it. It paired nicely with a quality …

Aromas of super ripe blackberries and black cherries, grilled herb switches, hot gravel, tilled soil and spring flowers. Rich and fullbodied with copious, sweet blackberry and black cherry, some herbal shadings and earth. Plush, the tannins caress the palate. Drink now-2028 92

Had not tried a bottle in over 4 years. Dark fruit with hints of cherry on the nose. The palate was berries. dark cherry, plum, fig, tobacco and a touch of chocolate. The finish was long. Drank alongside a 2015 Beringer Private Reserve and this was everybody's favorite.

When I selected this bottle for dinner with grilled prime steaks (wife had filet; I had ribeye), I expected more...slightly disappointed, but the wine was still enjoyable, my expectations were not met, that's all. The tannins were a little more than I normally expect and the fruit had appeared to dissipate slightly (in 8 years?) or either the wine didn't hit it's mark in the beginning. We did decant and filter the wine for about 1 - 2 hours before …

I'd call this 2015 vintage decent. Purple blue color, dark berry, dark currans, dark cherry, fruit forward with a somewhat lean and elegant profile. A medium bodied, tobacco plus wine with a hint of a mineral element. The mouthfeel; smooth and velvety tannins and a decent finish. Paul Hobbs makes solid wines and was one of my favorites but not so much these days. 92+ Points.

Is there a more consistently delicious Cabernet from Napa, vintage to vintage, at roughly the $100 price point, than Paul Hobbs? Of course, people have caught on how great this wine is, and it's no longer a $75 wine, and more a $110 wine. But factoring inflation, I think it's still worth it. Whether you're opening a bottle at 15 years of age or in its youth, you'll get a 93-95 point experience. Of course there's some extraordinary years like …

Lunch at Wa-I to celebrate a few birthdays. Drank in Grassl Cru. Pop and poured. Under cork. Tasted blind. Appearance is clear, deep intensity, blackish ruby colour. Legs. Nose is clean, pronounced intensity, with aromas of black plums, plush blackberries, mint leaf, milky vanilla oak, fresh black leather. Developing. On the palate, dry, high acidity, high alcohol (14.6%), fine silky high tannins, very full body. Pronounced flavour intensity, with flavours of plush black plums, blackberries, blackcurrant berries, black pepper, mint …

Five years later and this is still a great wine. Deep purple in the glass. Aromatics of dark fruits and some leather at this point. Two hour decant and drank over two hours and this continued to evolve. Lingered on the palate. Paired well with grilled ribeyes. This has many years left although was my last bottle.

If any of you have connected my dots you have seen me not impressed with four or five older Napa cabs. Happily here my patience was rewarded. This is a classic Napa cab, but evolving, balanced, great on palate, better the second eve, rewarding secondaries. Whew.

I believe this will tip over to 4.0 or even 4.2 stars in circa 2 to 3 years, for now it takes a bit of patience to coax the best out of this Napa. My contribution to a reunion and happy hour session at Butchers Table in Hartamas. I had popped this at 4pm, back in the cellar uncorked for two hours prior to going to BT, and serving this at say 7pm. The balance improved but some may say …

How do you not love this? Deep purplish to garnet core with heavy legs. Nose; cassis, blackcurrant, cherry, wet cigar, cigar box & hint of white pepper/ mint. Palate; fruit bomb with vanilla creme brulee, savory notes with the white pepper & cinnamon spice at the end. Mouthfeel; smooth and velvety tannins with silky finish providing a long enjoyable finish. One of the best wines I tasted for a while
