Another delicious example of Lilbert. Had it with Wagyu Nigiri. A good level of acidity to help cut through the fat. A lot of pastry notes and relatively rich as well. Fine mousse. Golden color. Nose of bruised apple, candied lemon peel, nectarine, sweet pastries and caramel. On the palate, bruised orchard fruits, apple pie, almond pastries, sweet lemon, honey and caramel. Medium+ finish.

Verve Champagne Fest (Chicago, IL) : Somewhat tart for a wine of this vintage, but the fruit profile is quite clean and pure. I love the idea of the house even though I find myself wanting a little more dosage here.

Recent auction purchase. A relatively mature showing, with rich citrusy fruit and some oxidative caramelly notes. Tasty enough, but I'd have expected some more chalky structure and power.

Of course way too young. Especially for a Lilbert that never gets old. But im impressed how well balanced and complex this champagne is. The taste is long. Grapefruit , brioche, almond, hazelnut and even a note of toffee on the nose. I believe this champagne is almost perfect and better than last years vintage from LB. I believe this champagne can reach 95p with 10-20 years in the cellar.

Bookclub (Foretti's) : Blind; this wasn’t that popular with anybody. Light yellow color. Lemon and lime but more full and candied. Slight yeasty aroma. I took the remainder of the bottle home, but the cork blew out of it on the ride and shot champagne all over the inside of my car. I’m definitely getting a lot of yeasty notes now!

Bookclub (served blind)--Steve (Foretti's in Corona Del Mar) : I last had this back in 2019 and I found the dosage out of balance with the wine, rendering that bottle to what I call the 7-Up soda effect. It's me, and it's not about a dogma for dosage but I just don't like champagne when the dosage sticks out for me, and I tend to prefer leaner and brighter anyway. 7 grams of dosage, disgorged Summer 2014, exact same data …

Bookclub (Steve) : Very sweetened lemon / lime curd blast on the front, minor yeast, though the finish had some bracing acidity. It gave the impression of not fully ripened fruit that was puffed up with dosage, which may explain why the result didn't taste harmonious to me. Nevertheless, given disgorgement date (2014), it's ageing nicely.

(Disgorged in 2023, 100% Chardonnay from Cramant, dosage 3 gr/l) Light yellow colour with a greenish hue and a youthful nose showing incipient maturity with butter, cream and candied citrus notes in a very pleasant way. Nice and creamy palate filled with lemon citrus acidity and with a pleasant finish showing a touch of hazelnut in a very pleasant way. (Best 2023-2038)

Lunch at Jade Court (Chicago, IL) : Quite opulent and rich as far as the fruit profile goes, with a slightly browning tinge that feels oxidative (think browning apples). High acidity with a sappy, tropical note on the palate. Again the richness of the fruit doesn't quite match with the lower dosage -- this feels a little angular despite the plushness. Not really my style of champagne.

Still very lean and best with food. Citrus, grape, green apples. Very balanced and high quality Chardonnay, would have a hard time to find same quality/price ratio in Burgundy.

Lilbert-Fils Cramant 2008.

Moden frukt i munn, godt balansert mht dosage. Flott syrlighet. Gode mineraler i finish. Usikker på videre lagring her, men vil nok holde. 92+

2019 Suntacular--Champagne Tasting to raise money for Laura's House : Disgorged Summer 2014, with 7 g/l dosage. Honey, cinnamon, green apple and the dosage here was too high for me, rendering that 7-Up soda kind of quality that turns me off.

As there seems to be different disgrogements dates out there, this bottle purchased in June 2015. Not particularly exciting at first. With temp and 30-40 mins of air there came quite a bit of maturity both on nose and palate. Palate the fresher. Would have preferred if the fruit had held up a bit more, but quite nice I must say. 91-92p. This was 1/12 so will need to track development here more cosely than I had expected.

On the palate fresh, lemony fruit, a touch of slate and crushed flint-stone. Builds up in the glass, and all in all a quite interesting, elegant and personal GC Cramant. No real match, though, for either the Roederer Vintage '08 or the Pol Roger BdB ditto. Approachable now, but no real development yet, hold at least 5-10 yrs. (89-90+ pts. for now)

Light yellow with a touch of green. Lots of minerals on the nose, limestone and sea breeze. Pure and fresh palate with an elegant mousse. Potent acidity but balanced. Superb lenght. Still a young wine, elegant, tight, pronounced terroir, great. Leave for another 3 years before trying again.
