Ruby color. Nose of iron-scented dark cherry blossom, red plum, raspberry, deep earth. Layers of sinewy black cherry, raspberry, iron granules, and fine dirt on the palate. Initially austere, with increasingly hedonistic reveal of fruit over several hours. Fresh acidity and stiff but slightly softened tannin. Long finish of ferric notes, red and black raspberry, holiday spice, and soil-inflected spine. Young but very promising. Could be quite exemplary in 5 years.

Bouquet dark and alluring with savory meat spice, wild cherries and hints of sage. Palate showing similarly with spicy cherries, marsala spice and dark chocolate. Drinking lovely at this point!

Wonderful spice notes, strong hints of pepper and delcisious alongside a bacon wrapped filet. Far exceeded my expectations. While not a typical Pinot profile to me, I really enjoyed this one.

Nose: earth, chocolate, red fruits, strawberry, nutty, hint of cherry tomato, grassy, raspberry Notes: the domaine is probably more well known as the other owner of Clos de Lambrays, the not so monopole monopole. This wine has an excellent nose and the overall style is seductive with a good enough structure and body to demonstrate the Gevrey element in it. This is a rare breed of value for money Grand Cru today and coming from the Mazoyeres parcel which is …

TM Mazoyeres vs Charmes Dinner. Appearance is clear, pale intensity, ruby colour with thin watery rim. Legs. Nose medium+ intensity, with aromas of boiled meat, beef broth, red cherries, dark vegetal earth. Developed. On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium+ alcohol (13.5%), medium tannins, medium+ body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of beetroot, spicy stem, red cherries, bramble earth, some meat. Long finish. Very good quality. Feels like quite developed and time to drink already.

Still a bit tight but the essence is there. Strong grip on the bite, dark red cherry, long spicy finish. Needs time to develop but has the right structure for LT aging. Hold for at least 5.

Dinner at Testaccio (Chicago, IL) : The nose here shows lots of the red-fruited, light 2008 character. It's got that thing that I would readily mistake for stemminess but I'm pretty sure the wines here are fully destemmed. Red fruited and bright on the palate as well, but a little obscuring muddiness that seemed to get more prominent when I revisited the wine later. A very good bottle of grand cru Burgundy that delivers what it promises on the label, …

Casual dinner at Testacio : Appealing and enticing nose has an attractive stem quality with pure black and red cherry with excellent meatiness. Clear grand cru concentration and depth. Meaty fruit with power and purity, nicely integrated 2008 acidity into a long, satisfying finish.

Wow, wonderful stuff. My first Grand Cru Burgundy from the Cotes de Nuits, and didn't disappoint at all. In terms of its character alone, it was up there with some of my even higher-ranked wines on CT. But this is a little tough for me to rate, as it's nearly the most expensive wine I've ever enjoyed, bought for a little under $200. A $100 wine is usually seriously expensive for me, so I can't fully judge the QPR- it …

This bottle was a bit untypical. Almost had a biodynamic quality to it, and was difficult to pinpoint as pinot. A shame, as my last bottle was flawless.

Beautiful wine. Medium depth on the lush red fruit. Good structure and acidity, balanced and long. No hard edges. Tannins light and integrated. Opened 7:30am. Decanted 4:30. Began drinking with the Burg Goats at 5:30. Perfect!

nose - sour plum mouth - savory or salted plum, fresh yet starting to acquire tertiary flavors that made some of the (other) armchair critics at the table question if it might be past its prime. I think not. Hold 5+ yrs.

-- decanted one hour before initial taste -- -- tasted non-blind over 2 to 3 hours -- NOSE: high-toned red-fruits; reminds me of a raspberry lambic; hint of wood; medium- expressiveness. BODY: medium-light bodied; ruby color, of medium depth, with bricking at edges. TASTE: very acidic – a touch sour; red-fruited flavors of medium-light concentration; a touch austere, with slightly drying tannins coming through on the finish; 13.0% alc. not noticeable; slight gamy quality; hint of oak; touch of green/olive …

High acid vintage is apparently here. Need more time to settle down. Decent and clean nose, still some unresolved tannins, no hint of alcohol. Due to the acidity, more of a food wine now, but should be better in 5 years.

Medium clear red; lovely fruity nose with plenty of raspberry, some vanilla; lovely, smooth and pointed, nice acidity giving it an edge; good taste, good length; a bit on the lean side, but well tasting; much better / more developed than 2.5 years ago - "a point" I believe

Dark berries on the nose, with ripe raspberries. Some herbs and hints of autumnal forest tones. Good balance and taste from beginning to end. Gentle fine tannins. Round acid, not as sharp as many '08. Nice length. 50 + 5 + 12 + 15 + 8 = 90p.

Just lost it's young color. warm ruby red. Nose is full of autumn leaves, herbs, forest floor and fresh berries. Palate has a bit of the '08 acidity, but not at all overpowering. Gentle and soft, yet powerful and intense. A high quality wine with an incredible palate. Really loved it. 50+5+13+16+8 (92p)

In perfect shape now for a wonderful, lighter early drinking experience. Nicely crisp but not overly acidic as some 2008s can be. The cherry and lingonberry flavors are precisely and narrowly chiseled, with a fairly long finish and a lighter Pinot mouthfeel. Elegantly produced villages wine that goes especially well with seafood as well as meat.

Evening with Edouard Labeye at Winery of Good Hope and some smart bottles (Winery of Good Hope) : Mid- ruby red with a heady intense nose of wild strawberry, raspberry and oak spices with an almost mineral element as well. Delineated and clean. The palate is polished with some succulence yet fine grippy texture balanced with a pulsating acidity that gets the saliva going. Quite muscular (masculine) Gevrey providing plenty of structure but has a more juicy element that almost …

Bright fresh red fruits, strong strawberry note, roasted nuts, flower, mocha and mushroom. Medium concentration and nice balance with bright acidity and noticeable tannins. Very enjoyable now but will improve for a couple decades. I prefer the expressive and delicate nature of this wine to the 08 Charmes.

Medium red, transparent. Nose of red berries and some vanilla. On the palate its very much redcurrant juice, some rasperry and wild strawbeery notes and a hint of oak. Not to tannic, but the acidity is blistering! With air the harsh acidity softens, and the juice is a lot more enjoyable. Had to have some hard cheeses to acompany this one, very much a food wine.

Three days tasting notes follow below: Tasting day 1- We opened it for a nice Sat. night meal (lamb steak). Decanted for about an hour, which greatly helped the taste and color to open. A red-ruby color (got much more beautiful after decanting), well balanced medium body. Long finish (45 plus seconds). 93-95 with a positive prospect. This wine is ready and enjoyable to drink, but I keep my other two bottles for about five and ten years to come. …
