Too old. Nice Pinot fruit but fades quickly to bitterness. Kept in the rack too long. Underlying flavors would have been very good if drunk 1 to 2 years ago.

Exactly what I said a year and a half ago - "Nose on the lighter side of berry. Wonderful taste. Not heavy or alcoholic. No sense of oak. Very fruit driven, moderate weight and very yummy." Likely even silkier on the palate now. No sense of being over the hill but very ready to drink.

Can't recall the details (about 2 weeks ago) but this surprised me to the upside, medium body with nice nose, fruit, finish

Bright cherry fruit. Not quite in balance at this showing. The acidity poked through, the whole thing was more in parts, nothing silky or complete about this wine, but others seemed to like ti quite well.

Pure aromas of perfectly ripe strawberry, black cherry, vanilla, sweet earthy notes and a little spicy dried herb. The spice and herbs build on the palate and through the finish, which is fresh and focused. This wine has opened and improved over the last 18 months and should be good for another 2-3 years. Promises great things for the 2006 Copain SVD Pinots.

Bright red berry, smoke, mushroom, cinnamon and a hint of vanilla. Tremendous purity and focus. This has opened up over the last year. A great QPR to drink over the next 1-2 years.

Nose: Earth, suede leather and some dark cherry undertones. Palate: Very soft and understated Pinot with dark cherry, and some forest floor. Good acid profile. While a little soft for my preference this is well made and a good QPR.

This wine has picked up considerable body in last year. Very nice mid level cali pinot.

Started very sweet on the nose - strawberry, cherry cream soda, juicy fruit gum and a little bramble. Nicely mid-weighted with flavors of black cherry pie, cinnamon and a little earthiness. The spicy finish has some prickly acidity and moderate power. Over a couple of hours the nose lost the overt sweetness with the fruit moving towards red and blackcurrant, and adding a little licorice and game. This has developed positively since release and will likely be at its best …

A wonderful Pinot for the money, especially with the complexity it offers. Rich texture on the nose, with bing cherry, baking spice, and earth. The palate is dense, medium-bodied, with a rich vein of acidity revealing cherry and strawberry flavors. Still dense and tight, this was not decanted but consumed over three hours. A very dry finish, with bracing tannins.

Bright cherry nose. Favorite of the evening especially considering the value.

Copain at Fratello's (Fratello's San Clemente) : Broad nose with earth and mushrooms, some heat. Tart biggish lush fruit on a short palate. Very different style from the Copain bottles. Probably needs to settle in bottle for a few more months but not made for the long haul.

Not impressive at all. Not 'Copain-esque'... thin, empty, almost no fruit. Served this to friends who aren't wine snobs, and even they didn't like it. I won't buy anymore 2006s. Will wait for 2007 and try again.

Not bad for under $20 pinot from a near cult winemaker. A bit short on the finish this wine is still young. Acidity dances on the tongue. Fairly typical/classic pinot flavors/aromas of spicey cherry with a bit of earth. A bit more fruit driven now, not too much PN funk to speak of. Good food wine.

Pleasant pinot. Medium intensity nose of cherry. Same on the palate with a strong acidity. Medium length finish.

Good, but not great. It's a mostly natural tasting pinot, but starts off acidic and sometimes moves to the unnatural fruit flavors. Would not buy again.

Very young right now, this showed some nice aromas of chalk dust, ripe cherries jubilee and rhubarb. This needs a lot of time in the decanter. At first, lots of ripe fruit, Christmas spice, a touch too sweet for me, but enough acidity. After 4 or 5 hours, this came together and lost some of its candied character.

I've had several vintages of this wine (use to be called Saisons des Vins) and the '06 is by far my favorite so far. What more could you ask for in a sub $20 PN from CA. The fact that it is all Anderson Valley fruit makes it even better, for me at least. Wonderfully expressive nose of crushed flowers, baking spice and cherry. The palate really shines with sour cherry, underbrush and a touch of cola. With air this …
