Nose exhibited sous bois, flowers, red fruit and spice. Palate was linear yet also showing the vintage fatness and ripeness. Lovely. 93+

The completeness of this wine is astonishing. Uniquely strong and masculine, yet with a balanced gentle touch that caresses your soul. Noticeable notes of black/oolong tea with its TCM-like bitterness balanced with pure cherry essence. Tremendous concentration, focus and length. Will continue to improve and blossom over the next two decades. Indeed a masterpiece!

Guessed this to be a Grand Cru (tasted blind). One of the more accommodating Maison bottlings chez Leroy tasted in recent memory. People really do LOVE this vintage; A very virile but elegant nose of beef stock, briary scents, pine forest wood, definitive gamey notes give way to more classic sous bois/mossy suggestions with air time. Fantastic ripeness and layering still. Good compromise between fruit density and sous bois complexity. Grand Cru showing in my book. This was on form …

Solid garnet color; effusive, deep dark fruited nose; spice and soil-driven nose, very rich and dark, tremendous depth, pine needle-covered earth; just keeps blossoming in the glass with violets, richness and depth. Kept going for hours. Tasting partner called it gran crus. I’m scoring it that way. 94+

Boisson Vadot White Wines & A Mix of Old Red Burgundy (Paradise Valley, AZ USA) : Served blind. Younger and more oaky at first than the previous wine (which turned out to be '78 Pommard Epenots). This went from being underwhelming to phenomenal with a bit of air. Correctly guessed '85 vintage and Gevrey-Chambertin appellation. This has wonderful black fruit, very classic Gevrey. I thought this was one of the more transparent Leroy wines I've had in some time, very …

This bottle blew me away at the La Paulee Gala 2019. It was in excellent condition and from the little sip I got, I was transported to a quieter more reflective place!! The nose was superb, and the finish went on and on. It was one of if not THE WOTN for me.

La Paule de New York Gala Dinner (Pier Sixty - New York NY) : Small glass, brief note. Served alongside the Charmes--Chambertin, this wine has more density, but came across as slightly dirty, not quite pristine, and getting tired. Likely a bottle that suffered poor conditions at some point in the past 30 years.

85 dinner- Chambertin flight. This bottle was slightly bruised so not best example next to ponsot and Rousseau. Showed pretty soft cherry fruit and medium length. Good core but just not a great bottle

What an incredible "old Burgundy" nose. Wondrously elegant and ethereal with a firm backbone and elegant, earthy, dried cherry fruit. Perhpas a hint of dryness but otherwise a wonderful experience. I think this is pretty much ready now.

Dinner at Ray's; Older Burgs, Bordeaux and Italian (Vancouver, BC) : This started with a huge dirty barn yard nose. The first 30 minutes this wine was not great. After 30 minutes it got cleaner and was more enjoyable. After two hours it had completely fallen apart.
