Agree with a previous note from Bodyfxr that this is somewhat flat and thin. Seems to have had the life knocked out of it - this bottle at least. Would have guessed an average slightly tart Chianti rather than this blend. Not 80 points bad but nowhere near 90 points good either. One left - move to the “drink up” shelf..

13.5% 60% Cabernet Sauvignon 30% Merlot 10% Aglianico. Popped and poured. Cork very tight, intact absolutely no sign of seepage. Medium red core, bricking at the rim. Tertiaries coming out. Black olives, leather, dark chocolate. Raspberry black cherry in the background. With air time high toned sweet strawberry note comes out. Almost black on opening but the color lightened to crimson with some air. Looks very youthful. Very much an Italian wine with a very woody nose, smoke, ample tannins and verging on sour, not in a pleasant way. Seems best for food, meat, game and hearty sauces. Won’t ever be for the faint of heart. I’d say drink going forward. I’ll probably open another next week.

One of the better 2003 I have had! Often this wine comes across a little too polished for me, and here it retains that style but with a bit of herbal notes to give it interest. Full-bodied, dark, black-fruited, and (most striking) not over-ripe or roasted. Quite a success!

Double-decanted with a 3 hr decant then back into the bottle to bring to a restaurant (along with a northern Italian Nebbiolo.) This wine evolved dramatically from decant (palate seemed thin and a bit unyielding) to serving (open, somewhat robust, and reasonably full-bodied). At fifteen years, the 2009 Montevetrano showed little sign of aging, the important fill level and cork being pristine. We had this after a bottle of the 2004, and while that one seemed still youthful, this one was definitely past its prime (though, nota bene, this bottle had been stored since release in a hot apartment). But the more we drank it, the more we enjoyed it. The tannins are all gone, but the wine has a cherry fruitedness that, as it reveals itself, makes it seem like an old Chateauneuf-du-Pape.

A terrific blend of Aglianico, Cab and Merlot. The nose really displays that blend. The palate is firmly into the secondary realm, where the texture is dropping some flesh yet the tannin are still stout. Notes of slate and scrub distract you from the redder, fresher cherry liqueur and crushed berries. Tough to put a window on this. P'n'P but better after 45 mins in the glass. Nice Left Bank black and blue elements but the Aglianico turned the black fruit density up a notch. Modest Oak some dried herbs and faint touch of cassis and black pepper. Very smooth. A very nice wine.

Decanted about 30 minutes prior to service; enjoyed over the course of a few hours. The 2007 pours a deep ruby color with an opaque core; medium viscosity with moderate staining of the tears and some signs of light sediment. Erste Flasche der Kiste, mal sehen wie weit der Wein ist. Gleich nach dem Öffnen sehr säurelastig, zugeknöpft, bittere Schwarzkirsche. Nach ca einer Stunde im Dekanter öffnet sich der Wein etwas. Last of three, probably the best. One hour decant was beneficial as tannin edge eased. Dark red and purple fruit, blackberry, more plum hints than prior bottles. Earth, oak and some spice. Fruit was rich, better with food than on its own, though post dinner was enjoyable for the added air time. Moderate full body, length. Interesting wine, and the Aglianico spins the palate in its own way.

Decanted, but poured pretty quickly after opening. This, my penultimate bottle of a case, has mellowed beautifully into an exceptionally fine wine. Perfectly balanced and an unobtrusive delight to drink. Fine with or without food: with a sip, life, at that moment, is good.

The stellar 2007 Montevetrano is drinking beautifully yet still has years ahead of it, showing blackberries, black currants, liquorice, mint, and hints of leather and cedar on the nose. Its silky palate combines an impressive richness and depth of fruit allied to deftly handled acidity, alcohol, and super ripe tannin. Elegant, unique, balanced, and downright hedonistic. OUTSTANDING

Je n'avais jamais goûté et n'en n'avais qu'une bouteille. Pas déçu, c'est le moins que l'on puisse dire ! Je suis surpris par la finesse des tanins, alors que les arômes puissants, le menthol très classe et la robe noire laissent présager un vin costaud. Quelle élégance au contraire ! Les 10% d'aglianico donnent une suavité qui rend le cabernet un peu moins austère, c'est super bon, on se régale. Une grosse quille prête à boire, très belle découverte.

Red date, savoury earthy liquorice with ripe red plums and orange peel. Bright and smooth with lots of roasted herbs. Sweet and rich texture follows through with a long balsamic finish.

Coravin. Immediately was giving off a nice barnyard funk that quickly blew off. Nose has settled down to currants and blackberries, with still a hint of barnyard. 1st of two bought at auction. Cork soaked halfway, decanted off decent amount of sediment. Needed 30 min to blow off a bit. Best at cellar temp, where it shows a nice balance of the ripe fruit, sweet tannins and enough acidity and background earthy notes. Mostly cherry, black cherry. In a great spot between late primary and early tertiary flavors. Drink now and over the next 5+ years.

Super herbal, with rosemary and caraway leading the charge. Youthful, tannic, succulent. Huge personality.

Late maturity. Vivid aromas, cherry and sweet peppers. Quite dry on the palate, with bright acidity. Herbal and dried fruit. Still very enjoyable but on the decline.

1996 vintage

Brought to a restaurant, decanted. An outstanding iteration of southern-ish Italian red, with rich Cab notes softened and sweetened by Merlot with a sufficiency of Aglianico to anchor it to Campania, imparting a licorice note that complements many foods: in this case guacamole and chips, followed by duck breast and grilled cod.

Unbelievably dark garnet-ruby color. Mulberries, blackberries, plums, fruit sweetness, and oak on the nose. The texture is ungodly good, soft and velvety and caresses the entire mouth. Notes of mulberries, red plums, raspberries, and a general sweet confectionary note. Delicious.

Color: medium ruby, hints of Garnet Nose: red apple, blackberry, blueberry and plum, ripe but not too much. Hints of pie crust, smoke, bitumen and rhubarb pie. There is a hint of octane, or hydrocarbons anyways at the end of every sniff Palate: at this stage it's very endearing and balanced. More or less consistent with my bottle/note of three years ago "Very good; needs at least 45 minutes of aeration prior to service if you want a better showing. From magnum decanted 2 hours. This was magnificent! The nose was in such a great place with that great blend of fruit and just enough age. There is a gritty tannin from the cab that’s really evident until the food shows up and then it’s all velvet and that great nose. Wonderful length that didn’t disappear with the veal. I have had other vintages and this was more elegant/ less rustic. Loved it.

Nearly 5 years since last bottle, I'd say bottle age was beneficial. Decanted 30 minutes, while a bit reticent nose, the palate was rich and full, good balance with aged red fruit, blackberry, earth, tobacco. Continued to improve through dinner and after. Drink or age, seems in a good place now.

This had some nice richness and great balance and finesse. It was just lacking in vivacity. Maybe a year or two past prime.
