This was just outright terrific Pinot noir. Perfectly balanced tannins and showed that classic Sta Rita Hills cherry cola, spices, and raspberry notes that I absolutely love from the area. Perfect temp and acidity when served and went well with every food. Have one more bottle that I will try to find and drink soon. This was a showstopper.

Our second 2016 Clos Pepe, 4 1/2 years later. My comments then still hold somewhat true now. The cherry fruit is there but softer and more savory throughout. The Clos Pepe just gets better and better. Finished the last glass today and it was like velvet on the tongue. Working our way to the 2017's

This is a fantastic wine. Consensus ranking around 92.5 is right on for me. Lots of fruit but more cherry and something akin to plum (not berry but a little sweeter). It’s got a little spice (baking spice more than cola or licorice) on the back but fruit pervades throughout. Long, enjoyable fruity finish. When you pour, the vibrant violet colors fill your glass and a general fruit perfume fills your nose. This can be deceiving sometimes but not for …

Wonderful wine, that despite being on the pricier side, will liven up any evening. Pours to a dark reddish purple in the glass with a full bodied feel to it. Notes of dark cherries and berries. spices, and orange peel. Full bodied on the palate with a long finish. Very enjoyable.

Perfectly clear and saturated. Slow legs. 4 Clean but subdued nose. Evergreens, plums, dark cherries, cocoa, smoke. Enjoyable. 12 Medium bodied. Bone dry, but still a bit candied. Juicy and complex. This is where the wine shines, but it is still a fish out of water. In spite of the quality, there is no sense of place for me. 16 I do respect the quality of the winemaking exhibited in this bottle, but it just falls short of exceptional. 7

I did not enjoy this wine. It wasn't a bad bottle but didn't work for me.

Riesling & Pinot Noir Night (Peking Duck House Downtown) : High pitched, juicy red with notes of cherry and raspberry compote. A bit old worldy. It actually reminds me of Givry on a ripe year. Enjoyable now but it should age nicely, still fairly primary.

This bottle was fantastic, a full 2 points better that 7 months ago. If you have any, I’d give a little bit longer as a little time made a big difference.

Dark cherry, molasses, spice. Had this a few years back at the vineyard and it continues to surpass expectations. Would absolutely drink again.

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate "Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, the 2016 Pinot Noir Bob's Ranch opens with pronounced notes of blackberry preserves, blueberry pie and chocolate box with hints of anise, dried bay leaves and tilled black soil. Big, rich and full-bodied, the generously fruited palate is well-framed by velvety tannins and just enough freshness, finishing long and fruity. (LPB)" (4/2018)

A nose of woodsmoke, asian spice, meat glaze, intermingling with some red plums and cherry preserves -- quite aromatic. The palate definitely has nice intensity with many of the same notes, plus the addition of a touch citrus marmalade. The palate definitely has a round quality with medium acid and medium, maybe medium+, body. Finishes with some nice hold that showcases some preserves and cooked fruit. Definitely enjoyable, though a touch extracted on the palate, I was looking for just …

Cherry, plum and cassis on the palate with an earthy, smoky finish. Checks all the boxes for a Sta. Rita Hills Pinot. Nicely done with good balance and limited acidity.

Walt’s Sta. Rita Hills offering. Smoky, earthy with sour cherry and plum on the palate. All the classic characteristics of the region. If Sea Smoke is the standard, this comes awfully close. I found this to be less acidic than a sea Smoke, making this approachable earlier. Very tasty and well priced.

The wine looks crimson colored. The legs are slow. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like forest floor, cinnamon and molasses. It tastes like dark cherry cola, sandalwood and petrol. The body is medium. The wine has silky texture. The wine finishes long. The wine has low acidity.

Always have liked pinots from this vineyard over the years. Still good in Walt's hands. Slightly sweeter and less earthy than original owner's versions but still nice. Dark cherry fruit in a rich package but with nice underlying structure. Reasonably complex and nice bright finish. Delicious new world pinot.

Exquisite cherry, red currant nose and fruit on the first taste, opening to a soft balance of acidity and and light spice. Excellent finish that lasted for almost a minute. Became even better the longer it was open. A wonderful expression of a St. Rita Highlands Pinot Noir.

2019 Los Olivos Trip; 11/14/2019-11/17/2019 : Wow! Big cherry nose. Sweet, open palate with some concentration. Fine tannin begins on the midpalate and carries through the finish.

This PN is full bodied, dark purple in color, intense, and has a long finish. Alot of dark fruits and dark cherries, graphite/ pencil lead, and peppery spice. I preferred the slightly lower rated Walt Rita's Crown PN. If you prefer your PN dark and bold then this is the one for you."

Dark cherry aromas. Robust. Very dark color, not quite opaque, but... oaky on the palate. In a wood toast/smoke-sort-of-way. Big and silky PN. A couple, two, tree degrees above where I like my PN. Vineyard planted in 2009, with Paul Hobbs as a consultant. 72acres, 50acres of PN, 22 acres of Chard. 17 clones of PN and 9 clones of Chard.
