Absolutely in the zone. Some smoky mineral notes along with lime brulee, rockmelon and guava. The perfect amount of honeyed sweetness cut by a line of tangy acidity. Rich and layered but light on its feet. Clean finish that drives on and on.

Excellent. Progressed very nicely since release. Complex, fresh, some peach notes buffered by good acidity.

PnP then drunk over three evenings. This is lovely and even though it isn't a great wine, but still it is very far from simple. The nose already shows a lot of complexity, with sweet fruit (pineapple), hints of wet stones, and fine floral notes. On the palate it has lively acidity, more body than one would expect and lots of salinity, which from the mid-palate takes over and continues until the long finish. Amazing QPR.

375ml. AP 11 16. ABV 7.5%. PnP. Not sure why I had a sudden urge to drink some Riesling. It’s been a long time since I last opened this wine. Nose was clean, no petrol, plenty of flowers and citrus. Not overly sweet with mouth watering acidity. Definitely very enjoyable.

Perfect balance. The vintage allowed for a wonderful simple trocken at this address.

Nice fruit - lime, peach, slight tropical fruit, nice floral, honey- integrated sugar, good acidity. Lingering finish. Really enjoyable.

Glass: Unknown Burgundy Popped and poured from a half bottle. Almost in line with my impressions from 2021. Pure fruit juicy with a high degree of ripe acidity. This is perhaps a decade or more away to come out of its shell. Don't get me wrong: It is delicious to drink now, but it lacks depth and complexity now, that it will for sure develop. 91 with great upscale potential.

Sunday hangout (and goodbyes) (Chicago, IL) : #10-16, 7.5% abv. This is starting to emerge from the shut down phase (at least, that's my guess) based on how nicely it was drinking today. Only moderately sweet, but with plenty of the stony minerality that I've come to expect from Domprobst. May well be time to crack a few more 2015s to check in on how they're doing.

Glass: Zalto Universal Hmm, popped and poured from half bottle. Even though I adore Schaefer’s wines, this one was, hmm, not what I expected. It has the typical calmness, lots of exotic fruit, but at this stage it lacks excitement for me. It is almost pure fruit juice, with a sold balance of sweetness and acidity. But no real depth and the length is rather short. Am I concerned about my remaining bottles? Not really, but I think I need …

Prior bottle was a bit over 10 months ago and continues to show quite well. Nose remains a mix apple, pear and melon combined with lime and citrus. The longer it was open, the more those aromas pierced the veil of acidity. Medium bodied with apple and melon upfront, moving to peach and pear through the middle. The peach is perhaps slightly more distinct now and it's very clear that's there's a lot more complexity to be revealed here in …

ABV 11.5%. Very fruity on the nose. Notes of flowers and limes. Finished with strong citrus and a touch bitter. Fairly easy to drink, almost too easy, Non-sweet lime juice? No hints of alcohol. Would be great with Thai or Indonesian dishes.

Open a few days, from 375ml. With some air the nose on this is very yellow: ripe apple, peach, honey, honeysuckle and other yellow florals with some exotic thai or curry spices. There's also a more racy lime and rock candy airy core that comes out with a new pour. The palate is classic with tons of tangerine and lime, with lots of spice some exotics and maybe some tropicals. the palate is more compact than the nose, as the …

Prior bottle was just over 14 months ago and this wine continues to shine, perhaps even some positive bottle variation here considering how well the wine showed tonight. Nose showed the same apple, pear and melon mixed with lime and citrus notes, but it seemed more aromatic than previously. Medium bodied and the fruit profile of white orchard fruit (apple and melon, then peach and pear through the middle, finishing with citrus) remains essentially unchanged. The acidity also remains excellent, …

AP 10 16. It's been a while since tasting any of the 2015 Schaefers and I realized I actually hadn't tried the Spatlese #10 yet. The #5 was glorious and maybe a touch rich for a Spatlese so I was curious how the historically leaner #10 would show. I usually prefer the complexity of the #5 so I didn't stockpile much of its sibling AP from that year. Honestly regretting not getting more of this when it was on the …

Monthly Tasting Group: Rieslings (Ngon Bistro, St. Paul, MN) : Very pale gold color. Drank a glass over 30 minutes plus. Ok, I'll admit it, I'm a sucker for this flashy young Rieslings. So sue me. Geez, thiss is so bright and energetic, great zippy acids and bright tropical fruits, good balance, loads of tangerine and citrus zest on both the nose and palate along with pineapple, and a nice dose of tropical fruit too; light fusil, and a touch …

Popped and poured. A wine of grace, elegance and style. Light yellow. Primary nose. Light lemon, quince. Lovely ripe fruit that is nicely restrained and balance, with just the right amount of acidity. Has real presence, finishes long and clean. 4-12-17-9: 92/100.

Apple, pear, melon and lime on the nose. Medium bodied (7.5% ABV) with stunning vibrant and lively acidity. Fruit actually matches up quite well, even with this level of acidity showing almost entirely white orchard fruits: apple, melon and pear then peach through the middle. Tart citrus towards the back, especially lemon and lime and some hints of tart tropical qualities. Rounded, river stones on the finish along with lots of acidity. This wine doesn't have that assassin edged acidity, …

Lunch at Jade Court (Chicago, IL) : #10-16, 7.5% abv. I sort of knew it was a mistake to open this wine now, but I didn't really have much other riesling on hand at the moment (yeah, right), and so I figured I'd sacrifice a bottle of this to do a check in. It's definitely got the right material in the wine, but this just isn't rightly expressive at the moment. Lots of minerality on the palate gives this a …

Rieslingfeier Grand Tasting (New York City, NY) : From magnum. I like this edition of the wine a little more than the 2016 version. I found this wine to have more acidity, more sweetness, and more extract. Basically it's an amped up version of the same wine. Rereading my note on the same wine from about a year ago I'll add that my impression of it really hasn't changed very much.

#10-16, 7.5% abv. A bit of sponti on the nose, as well as some sulphur. This certainly still has a bit of a new wine smell, but that seems to be dissipating. There are some green herbs, stones, and yellow fruits here. As far as 2015s are concerned, this seems to break the mold a bit as it doesn't have the white-hot acidity and generous fruit that so many of the wines have. There's a lot of minerality here, though …

A bit closed on the first day, yielding nice orchard fruit but not much in the way of length or complexity. On the second day, however, this is a lovely and open riesling! Very energetic, racy, some peach notes, minerals, and a very long, fresh apple finish which is truly invigorating. Very nice!

Great and classic Willi right out of the gate. The nose shimmers with light lime, sugar crystals, some sort of green herbs, minerals. This is crunchy with cumin and green herbs. So delicate and poised. This is light on the palate as well - it's got some sweetness - rock candy and honeysuckle, lots of juicy citrus - mostly sweet lime, some rocks and stones. The finish is really sweet lime and stones. This is built on a lighter frame …

Tom Reddick in NY : Clearly bigger than the GH. Riper orchard fruit dominate - yellow peaches and apricot touches, over sweet citrus notes of oranges and clementines. with time though - the apples and the minerality begins to show through. again - power and agebility are the key. lovely note of herbs on the back palate and a long finish. this is excellent.

Tasting dinner with a selection of 2015 Spatlesen. Out of practical necessity- wines popped and poured and visited over a 2 hour period. pale yellow color, a more complex and ethereal nose than the Graacher Himmelreich #8, white peaches, soft orange notes, steely minerals, a slight note of pale grass, quite fine, tantalizing depth despite its sleek presentation, developed a honeyed note with time- and something of a creamy texture, there is a great deal here and so little of …

A Rieslingfeier of our Own; 2/13/2017-2/18/2017 (Traben-Trarbach, Germany) : #11-16. From half-bottle. Of the three GD Auslese that we had, this was by far the leanest. Crisp white minerality balanced by a light touch of yellow fruit. Clearly sweeter than the #5 Spätlese but holding the sweetness in check very well with acidity. The palate finishes with a light touch of green citrus. I thought this was fantastic, until I tasted the other two...

Cork. AP1116. Very tight. Needs a lot of coaxing to reveal itself. Tropical scents of mango, pineapple are not overdone, and are balanced by orange, lavender, pear, brine, lime, and musk. Incredible drive through the palate. Searing acidity carries the wine long into the aftertaste, finishing very clean and dry. The overwhelming impression is dryness, restraint, and acidic backbone. Opinion: excellent Riesling.
