Medium brick color, feint nose but complicated; black rasp, char, earth, river bank , leather and soft oak . On the palette black rasp, heavy mushrooms,, leather, oak, barbecue, and slight funk. Probably one the better examples of aging I've run across.

Servert til helstekt indrefilet av okse med pløtepoteter, rødvinssaus og gulrot/champinon/løk/chorizo blanding. Passet bra til, men dette er mat som tåler enda tyngre viner.

Spicy. Big acidity. Some leather and a bit of muted earth. Kind of hot. Needs plenty of decanting. Excellent food wine.

Really surprised at the fuller body and richness of this wine with dark fruits, spicy oak, and leathery earth on the finish. Didn't take formal notes but I have a second bottle so will return to it soon for a full evaluation. Giving it a B/B+ evaluation for now.

As per other reviews with some comments. This is good for price, if a little average. Nice fruit, bright, with light acid/tannin. Finish as some oak in there, but fairly mellow with just a little air. Nothing special

Very good, inexpensive, Rioja. Good tempranillo fruit up front, good mid-range, taste like American Oak in the mid-range and finish. Reasonable length to the finish. Tasted again the next day and a hint of oxidation suggesting this will not be a long lived wine but should hold up for 4-5 years.

A wonderful bouquet of red berries and oak, accompanied by notes of smoke, stable, leather and liquorice. Nice, smooth tannins and a finish that lingers like a velvety kiss in summer night. A very enjoyable wine indeed.

Deep, dark reddish purple in color. Very pretty & expressive nose of dark red & black fruit, pepper & vanilla. Palate of raspberry, black raspberry, & maybe cherry, with vanilla oak on the mid-palate and a nice, long finish with firm but pleasant tannins on the finish...not overpowering. (If I had tasted this wine blind I think I might have guessed it to be a well aged chianti, maybe a CCR) Purchased in BC, where prices are elevated--paid appx $23 …

1 hour decant. The oak monster came-a-knocking, but he's welcome as long as he behaves and doesn't show up EVERY day... Not much on the nose other than masses of American oak. On the pallet, well still oak and very approachable tannins and slightly bitter undertones. Maybe not an elegant wine but still a highly recommendable bargain if you're friends with the oak monster... A good match with bacalao.

Nose of blueberry chocolate, lacquered wood, stewed figs and orange peel. Mouth of roasted coffee beans, toffee, carrot juice and beetroot. A touch of astringency at the back. Has a complex palate that is comparable to some gran reservas I've had but not as much body. An elegant transition to a 60 second finish of bonox and balsa wood with consistently good height. Still going strong after 4 hrs.

Perfumed nose with a floral component. I got a hint of sherry on the nose as well that my wife did not. Prominant oak flavour on the palate, but not overpowering or overdone, with some cherry in the background. Medium body with black tea on the back palate and medium length finish. Really enjoyed this and already looking forward to my second bottle.

Tasted blind - Clear pale cherry core of moderate intensity extending almost to the edge with a bit of bricking on the rim - developed but still youthful. Clean and very complex nose of smoke, oak, cherry, some funky notes that are not offputting and leather - could nose this all evening. Dry with moderate+ acids and moderate body, moderate tannins that are fully integrated and moderate alcohol. Mouthfilling flavours of cherry, leather and vanilla with some tertiary notes in …

18 mos in French oak, 2 years of battle aging leads to a slightly darker color than the Crianza bottling. Aromas are much shyer at first, but a vigorous swirl yields plum, blackberry, and spicebox aromas. Less apparent tannins and acidity than the red label, with berries and spicy clove flavors. Beautiful texture, and a lovely spicy aftertaste. BAlance in more elegant and sophisticated.

Bought this bottle in April, to see how the '02 was in comparison to the '01. Decanted for about 2 hours. nice fragrant nose immediately upon pouring into the glass. Cherry and vanilla were all over the nose. On the palate the wine seemed one dimensional, some oak, but the fruit wasn't quite there. Thinner than the '01, and just not as nice.

A decent effort in this mediocre vintage. The nose is robust with tones of vanilla, meat, spices, and red fruit. On the palate one can feel the problems of the vintage as the wine is somewhat thin and with hints of green and underripe fruit. Nevertheless, compared with other 2002 Riojas, this one holds the line better. From now until 2012.

For a cheaper wine, it was actually not bad. Just needed something while watching TV and saw this at the store. Flavor was smooth and the aromas gave it a good after taste. Would definately have again, but would not use by any means for a special occassion. Alloted no points as I am no expert on the point scale.

Nice and simple Rioja, with bright red color, and beautiful aromas of ripe fruit and vanilla, which developed more pronouncedly after 20 minutes of aeration and continued to grow during the meal. On the palate it delivers good structure, nice integration, and more ripe fruit. Very good value for the money, it offers uncomplicated, nice drinking. Drink from now until 2009.

Not a great wine, but ok for the price (16$ in Norway). The nose is rather nice, but it is a little bit tainted by too much oak. On the palate this is a much lighter wine than the reserva or gran reserva.
