As noted by other tasting notes this wine really needs a little time to open. Medium acidity with notes of leather and ripe plum. Pretty amazing wine for the price point.

On the shelf at local store last week.... probably going to get more. 14$... Different and delicious. Med tannins and + acid . After an hour it got deeper flavours with nose of wet gravel and sour black cherries and white pepper on the finish. Like a French burgandy mixed with a Spanish grenache....lite on its feet but with some power. Really good.

Consistent with previous note...and even better. While rustic, the wine's poise, range, and balance bend the mind. A wine of the earth and an outstanding example of why I drink wine.

A bit of an enigma - rustic yet quite complex. Evolved quite a bit over 3 days. 20 minutes after opening: black fruit, pencil shavings, wet gravel, with some spice on finish. Confused where the red fruit was. Day two it opened up a lot, with red fruit on the nose, red fruit, cassis, gravel on the palate, with stewed red fruit and violet finish. Balanced tannins & fairly high acidity. Fruit faded a bit on day 3. paired well …

Medium garnet in the glass, pronounced aromas and flavors, nose of dark fruits, anise and earth, palate and dry, balanced, cherry leads, dried berries, herbs, spice, black pepper notes, mid palate is a hint medicinal, back is earthy, tannins are well integrated and medium, finish falls off a bit quickly.

A full bore overachiever. This drinks like $40+ Mencia. It features purple fruits, herbs, menthol, olive brine, cured meat, black earth, and crushed rocks. Powerful structure, appealing textures, highly impressive range. The whole package! Let it breathe for maximum effect. Tasted twice with consistent notes.

Pretty decent. Opened up quick with aeration. Drank the bottle in one night and it was consistent throughout. I'd have this again.

It needs to breathe, but develops a pleasant black pepper earthy tongue

Ripe cherry, cherry stone bitterness on the finish. Smooth tannins, a strong mineral or blood component too.

In agreement with previous note. One-dimensional, modern, a decent quaff, but atypical for the variety. "Good," 82/100.

Good. Dark cherries with a slightly bitter finish. Nothing complex here.

Unlike typical Bierzo mencias, this one from Valdeorras. Ripe cherry, maybe too ripe, with a bitter cherry stone finish. A little one dimensional, missing the mineral flavors of Bierzo.

Beautiful deep red color. Smooth tasting with a hint of pepper. Would buy again.

Good. Inky purple. Dark cherries and prunes, but it is missing the tar, herbs, raw gaminess and earthiness of a good mencia. Drinkable for $13. Fairly typical of the quality of a $13 WTSO bottle.

Decanted for an hour before enjoying with soppressata and cheddar. Very fruity, sweet-seeming, and modern in style. Stewed cherries and mocha on the palate. Medium(-) acid and very little tannin leave this feeling flabby next to the cured meat and cheese. Very drinkable and OK at $12.50, but not typical Mencia. "Good," 82/100.
