Domaine de Chevillard Mondeuse Vin de Savoie

Deep ruby almost to the rim. Smoky, herbal black fruit aromas. Medium to light weight. Penetrating, lean, saline, mineral wine. Earthy blackberry, the barest hint of ripeness, licorice and tannin on the finish. Not as herbaceous as the nose suggests. Precise, crisp, interesting wine that begs for food, which enlivens it compared to sipping it on its own. It is still taut, and I believe it will gain from further aging.

storybook. highly scented. juniper, smoked pepper, currant, mint/birch, nori, all very angular, worn, and pressed. acidity is very fresh, verging on immature. suspended tannins like weight-bearing cables. inspiring illuminations of resin green and yellow leaf. all very harmonious. belting isolated genius. furniture serves as it encumbers—mine is côte-rôtie; and auvergne. A trick: address this wine as if it were a northern rhône; that's satisfying enough, and the misdirection conjures something more like beaujolais character. Fun.

Nicely acidic, a little funky upon opening. Great with food.

Popped and poured. Needs air and coaxing to come alive - give it at least 30 min. Medium bodied, restrained fruit, high acidity, quite classic in style. Cherry, herbs and minerals come through. This drinks quite well once it opens. Should have 5-10 years more of life ahead.

Outstandingly good value. Extremely complex on the nose without being too funky / bretty. There are notes of small berries and an almost Loire Cabernet Franc-like cranberries (without the bell pepper) Mouth is fleshy and long -- avoids being flabby because of bright acidity. I like the Prieuré St Christophe more, but this is about 10% the price ... Probably at peak now, I worry that this the fleshiness will become flabby over time.

Outstanding QPR

Really in a good place right now. Wish I had a case more of it, but not sure I'd be able to keep my hands off long enough to see how they age.

EYE: nearly opaque blood red purple. NOSE: remarkable concentration. Imagine a line of red wine from Chambertin to Cannubi. In the Alps it manifests as Mondeuse like this. Sappy, tight bunches of black sticky fruit and herbs volunteer plumes of licorice, earth, plum and mushroom. It smells dry and savory, a vin de garde hatchling. MOUTH: intense. Ruthless, black vine acidity thoroughly drives the drink. A tidal front of deeply ripe tannin and glycerin fruit-extract disencumbers gradually. Lovely surprise punctuations …

Interesting wine.... Nose and palate line up together... It’s a fairly straightforward hit of lip smacking bright cherry with an undertone of earth...what it lacks in complexity it makes up for precision... the high acidity may not be everyone’s cup of tea... Will be interested if a few years in cellar changes the experience..

Nose incredible crunchy bramble fruit. Rose blueberry cranberry and red currant. Palate deep acidic and mineral driven with healthy dose of fresh red fruit. Herbal hints. Very long finish. Serious juice. Young.

Very terroir driven style. Great ambassador of the region Savoy. Fresh red fruits, a little cellarnote. Young. Can mature even a bit more. On the palate natural and elemantel, crystal clear and precise. Red currants and raspberries. Flowers, fine acidity. With every sip you feel the alps on your tongue. Wonderful salivation. Between easy drinking and high standart. Very good and a great unique style!
