Wow. Glorious. Showing a hint of age, but otherwise primary.

Brief note. A brilliant Puligny 1er - bordering on Le Montrachet - at Grand Cru level quality. Fruit depth, concentration, minerality and balance. Lovely precise acidity. Complex, a mélange of citrus and orchard fruit. Drinking at an early peak but I'd expect it to sit on that plateau until 2032+.

Painfully young but so much energy in this wine. We chose to give this wine 60 minutes of decant before serving it and it needed every bit of it. Beautiful aromas of tropical and yellow fruit together with dense but balanced used of oak. Explosive nose and really complex. Great minerality and tension on the palate as well with good harmony and balance. Keep this for another 5-8 years.

Final bottle from a six bottle lot purchased from the Belgian importer in 2020. Last tasted two years ago, when it still needed some time - it is now à point, with time in hand. Elegant, intensity without weight, crystalline purity of fruit, flawless terroir expression, energy and grip, flowing and long.

So much tension here, a coiled up spring that will beautifully evolve for over a decade. A structured and serious wine. Barrel sample tasted at the domaine.

This was right in the sweet spot of some tertiary characteristics with still-ripe fruit. Green banana, pineapple, musk. Hints of matchstick and sea spray nose. Quite a long finish. Beautiful.

Tasted next to des Lambrays wine from the same vineyard and vintage. This one was leaner with more lemon citrus than the riper Lambrays, and this finished quite dry. More oak tannin and structure present here, less delicious but maybe a technically better wine?

Académie des Cinquante Burgundy visit; 6/1/2022-6/3/2022 : Paired with Clos de la Pucelle 2016. Clearly the greater wine of the two, deeper and with broader shoulders, but also in need of more time to develop. It is a profound wine, and a resounding success for this frosted vintage.

First bottle from a half case purchased from the Belgian importer in 2020. The Clos du Cailleret is located in the northern part of the climat, which abuts Le Montrachet at its Puligny end. This 2016 is a huge success for the difficult vintage, with a wonderfully pure and expressive, fresh and floral nose with aromas of steel and lemon curd, and a fruit salad aspect that reminds me of the Nahe; the elegant but energetic palate is delicate and …

Clean, precise, and kept getting more complete with air. Yet it didn't get much air because we drank this delicious wine rather quickly. This bottle was a reminder of how exceptionally well Jean Chartron has done in this challenging vintage, from top to bottom.

White flowers, honeysuckle, mineral, clean and crisp with a touch of tropical fruit. Excellent.

not blind cirtrus, few nuts, nicely integrated oak. 0,5h of decantation was too short. 92

Crisp, lean, tense, very young. This is going to be superb, but it's less giving than Pucelles at the moment. Give it a couple years.

2018 Quick Tasting at Domaine Jean Chartron (Puligny-Montrachet) : A special 1er cuvee at Chartron, bordering Chevalier-Montrachet, often drinking at close to Grand Cru level. The 2016 is another excellent example. A bouquet of lemon, lime, pear, oyster shell and chalky minerals. Similar on palate. Piercing, racy acidity. Energetic. Very pure and driven. Good volume, concentration and length. Excellent!

Lemon, butter, sweet spice, controlled oak, with time a little peach. On the palate lemon, soft acidity, slightly warm backed by tinned peach, butter and oak. Started off really liking this but went off it as the bottle went on…

Another spectacular young Chartron. Gloriously rich nose with candied ginger, lemon, honeysuckle, well-integrated oak. On the palate, just stunning acidity, loads of toasted bread, great density and just a fantastic finish. Ok, yeah. Every 2016 I have had from Chartron has been just stunning. This is just fantastic Puligny imo...

Late Night with Brian (Extra Space Boon Keng, Singapore) : Not a great wine, but it was still quite a treat to try this rarity – a red Puligny, drawn from a Chartron Monopole nestled to the North of what is probably the best white 1er Cru vineyard in Puligny today. It is interesting that both Lavalle (in 1855) and Rodier (in 1920) listed Les Caillerets, along with its sisters, Les Pucelles and Le Clavoillon, as red wine producing vineyards. …

Better, better, and better than the last bottles I've had of this wine. Complex, muted, dryer than most white burgs, and a long, long finish. Enjoy!

What I expected...an excellent white burgundy with sufficient complexity to entice. Enjoyed with fish. This wine has some room to grow...who knows if the experience will improve? A moderate value.

Too syrupy for my white burgundy tastes but a more-than-adequate offering. Enjoyable with friends and family.

An excellent white burgundy...complex and not quite outstandingly balanced. We enjoyed this with a salmon salad. Thoroughly satisfying.

A light dry white burgundy with some sharpness on the finish. A wonderful wine which is better served warmer than colder! My wife and I enjoyed this with a chili pepper rubbed salmon. Enjoy!
