Straw gold color. Yellow peach and apple aromas, primarily, with some nice floral qualities as well. The palate has that creamy '07 texture and a broad, mouthfilling palate impression. Absolute the top, even with the cork completely soft and not normal to be removed. The wine looks yellow gold colored. The legs are fast. There is no sediment in the bottle. Highly rated by the estate and by the critics. Some 18 months ago I spoke highly of it, but now I am not so sure. This doesn't have the same intensity or cut as the Halenberg Spätlese in '07, but it's fantastic all the same. A basket of fresh fruit ranging from ripe peach and white cherries to tarter green apple and limes with a stony undercurrent and a slightly oily texture on the palate with bright acids beneath. The nose here is very expressive with citrus fruit and mineral. On the palate, the wine is a picture of balance. Everything is in the right place, the ripe fruit and the zingy acidity working in harmony with each other already and leading into a long finish which unfolds new flavors as it extends. This is not a showstopper of a wine, but is correct in the best possible sense of the term. This should be wonderful as it matures.
