92 pts. A true testament to the aging potential of high-end Mendoza blends. This bottle of 2006 Quimera has been resting undisturbed in my cellar since 2008/2009, and the 20-year wait was absolutely worth it. The Profile: While the primary fruit has gracefully exited, the wine has transformed into a smooth, silky elixir. I was pleasantly surprised by the lingering notes of milk chocolate and incredibly sweet, integrated tannins. It is remarkably velvety on the palate. Technical Note: This vintage …

APPEARANCE: Purple in color, with deep intensity. NOSE: Medium(+) intensity. Detected red cherry, blackberry and other ripe fruit aromas. PALATE: Dry, with medium(+) acidity and medium tannin. High alcohol. Body is medium, with pronounced flavor intensity. Detected black fruit (blackcurrant, blackberry, black cherry, black plum) and oak flavors, with a long finish. CONCLUSIONS: This is a very good wine. This tied with the 2010 Bodega Catena Zapata Nicolás Catena Zapata for my favs of the night. With the Quimera being …

A little too "grapey" for my tastes. Lighter style, for sure. Perhaps a few steps past prime. Drink up!

Decanted for about 30 minutes and drank over the next 40 minutes with a grilled Filet Mignon. Dark fruit profile strong backbone, a bit of spice to it. Good bottle that went well with the steak.

Cedar, pencil lead and alcohol on the nose. Tobacco and coffee. Elegante dark fruit on the mid-plus mid. Medium plus finish and very balanced light tannins. This wine is drinkable once opened but perfect after a 3 hour decant(or another year in the bottle). 91-93 points

Purchased on honeymoon in Argentina in 2008. Held up well to 13 years of cellaring here. Pretty amazingly deep and complex wine. Layer in the meaning and history and this was a fun memory and experience.

Simply stunning. A great example that wine does not have to cost you an arm to offer a show stopping experience! In perfect place right now, this wine aged flawlessly into elegant, complex and over all just purely pleasurable wine. Super lovely!

A wine that probably started with very good intentions but time has not really put it on the path of greatness. 34% old vine Malbec, 32% Merlot, 22% Cab Sauvignon and 12% Cabernet Franc that sees 38% in new oak for 13 months. All perfectly programmed yet at this stage lacks a charm and a beauty. 87

Good, but a little muddy. Soft tannins and full mouth feel. The Bordeaux style blend works well.

Clarety cigar box nose, cedar wood, at first the palate was a little flat, have I opened it too late etc? After a couple of hours it really opened up, dark fruit, savoury, incense, more cedar. With a lovely bit of sirloin.

Une force tranquille se dégage de ce vin aux arômes de prunes et d'épices. Une trame soyeuse en bouche sur des tanins d'une finesse de velours. A boire et à reboire sans modération pour un prix si bas.

Blood red. At PNP it was all tart red cherry and a reticent nose. After two hours in the decanter it did develop more complexity in the nose and palate. Although still very tart it added some grilled herbs, minerals and blackberry fruit. The nose still took some coaxing but what was there was very good. Finishes with ripe cherry and a touch of tannin. Going strong. Remains youthful. Not for the person who likes low acid wines. Drank with …

Enjoyed this a lot. Had an old world complexity to you. The longer it sat in the glass the more and more of a perfumed rose petal smell came thru alongside the earthy somewhat funk it had. Really nice for such an inexpensive bottle.

Perhaps it was the company we were asking this wine to keep, but overall disappointing. I much preferred the Henschke Euphonium 2004, a not dissimilar blend if pitched at a slightly higher price point. Quite tannic still, sound and properly made, just not exciting, not anything in particular. I'd go for the straight Malbec not this blend.

This is drinking beautifully right now. 34% Malbec, 32% Merlot, 22% Cab Sauvignon and 12% Cab Franc. 1/3 aged in new oak, the rest in used oak. The nose is clean and complex, with black fruit, red fruit, baked fruit, coffee and dark chocolate. The acidity and tannins are medium and the alcohol is medium (+) at 14% but fairly unobtrusive. The palate is very lush and smooth yet backed by great structure. Old World elegance and balance with New …

Wine was "gone" (past its peak). Maybe something happened to this bottle because older bottles were completely alive! We opened 10 bottles of Quimera from 10 different vintages, from 2002 through 2011 (all of them were properly kept in a temperature and humidity controlled cellar). Vintages 2002, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2008 and 2009 were outstanding! Particularly 2002 and 2003 were not only holding well, they were spectacular, still at their peak! 2004 was, for some reason “gone". Maybe the bottle …

Tuesday Night Double Blind $40+ (Bin 75) : Black core with garnet rim; blueberry, fresh blackberry, spice, sweet, young, very fresh nose; youthful on palate, sweet fruit, plum, primary, soft tannin, a bit shallow; a really well stored example owned since release, amazingly this bottle needed another 10 years the way it drank tonight, very new and New World like in tonight's tasting, NR.

Opaque, inky purple. Pronounced ose of black fruits, a floral violet note amd a whif of oak. On the palate, sweet, black fruits, a touch of pepper, blkack olive. Soft integrated tannins and noderate acidity. O long finish. A lovely wine very much in its drinking wndow. Deceanted an hour in advance and this wine needs this to fully open out and becuase it has quite a sediment.

Second to the last of my 2004s of the Quimera. Still holding my '03, '04, '05 vertical for a future date. This '04 is still a baby. Can go a few more years, easily. Popped the cork to find it barely touched at the base. Very tight and tannic upon opening with a heady cassis, black liqueur note on the nose.
