Early Mountain, Eluvium, Virginia

Smells deep, clay and plum. Bit of sourness, moderate grippy tannins. All barrique aged, 40% new.

Lovely. Red blend. Could use more time to soften

Fresh, purple fruit, maybe some thyme and eucalyptus. Juicy with strong ripe plum, maybe some oxidation, fine moderate tannin good acid. Started falling apart after 30m... Never had a young wine die so fast

Really nice red fruit, medium body, fine tannins. Perhaps a tad thin and acidic, so may continue to get better with age.

I couldn't get this wine to come together (I gave it varying amounts of air). Harsh tannins, lots of acid. Not much fruit. Jalapeno taste. It either needed 5 more years of aging, or I should have drank it younger. I think this wine is built to age, but I'm not sure the fruit and flavor profile will last through the aging process. Early Mountain Winery (at the winery with Ben Jordan) : Very different compared to the 2015 version of this wine. This clearly has Bordeaux red varietal markers, but it is softer, with a lush spicy fruity approach with some leather notes but nothing to save.

76% Merlot, 19% Petit Verdot, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. I smelled and tasted this and just said "claret" out loud. This is a delightfully put together wine: some weight but still refreshing, both savory and spicy, vibrant, some depth on the finish. $36. +++

The fruitiest of their reds with a light nose. Very dry and on the thinner side with 7/10 tannins.

This is a serious wine -- excellent aromatics, eminently drinkable, 12.5 percent alcohol, not tannic. Drink now and marvel at how far virginia wines have come.
