I liked this better a few years ago, but not by much. The fruit has faded and is being replaced by a prune, bell pepper and vegetable medley. Still drinkable but not very enjoyable.

Others would rate is higher than I did, but the style didn't do for me. Licorice and blackberry aroma. Lots of sediments, not tannic, drinking alright without long decant. Peppery like most shiraz, good. Drink Now.

This was two wines in one for me. I decanted and started this wine with spicy Chinese food. I found a nice spicy complex Shiraz, typically Aussie. Some black pepper, blueberry with a nice full palate of balanced fruit. After 2 hours, this was more like a nice Napa Cab. Black olive, spice and a touch of vanilla on the nose. Purple, inky and full of sediment. Expressive aromas of olives and smoky perfume. The characteristically rich Barossan blackberry fruit s higher toned here. Clearly made from not-overripe grapes, this has none of the thick/slick/gooey/sweet features that have begun to be expected in Barossa shiraz. That said, the finsh is slightly hollow, and this is not a profound expression of the grape by any means. But it does exhibit the widsom of Rolf Binder and Kevin Mitchell.

Nose of sweet vanilla and oak. Tasted immediatley after opening and it just seemed a little sweet and flabby. Let breathe for one hour and it really started to open up. Typicalig baussie shiraz with sweet dark fruits, a little syrup, and jam. Became more complex in hour two. Leading with densely packed fruit on the palate, this wine has a hint of spice and enough acidity to give some structure to the fruit. Classic in its representation of Australian Shiraz, this is a round wine that doesn't go over-the-top with the fruit (see: Marietta Cellars Angeli Cuvee). Complexity improves after some time to open.

Had a little of this after a huge 2002 Cabernet. This wine paled by comparison, but almost anything would next to a Harlan wine. THe gunslinger was smooth and well made but should have been decanted and given time to open.

Aussie Wines Offline (Canyon Lodge American Grill - Laguna, CA) : I was pleasantly surprised by this wine as I had never heard of it until this tasting. Aromas of eucalyptus and ripe blackberries give way to black plums, blackberries, and spice on the palate. Nice acidity and a real joy to drink.

Good for what it is...anothe Aussie purple blue monster. Nose shows blackberry, bramble, spice, touch of tar. On the palate, brambly dark berry, pepper, and licorice predominate. A big Australian daddy done well for what it is.
